Dick Hannah Subaru is a disgrace of a dealership. The employees and supervisors are disorganized, insulting to customers, and negligent. While taking a test drive, our sales person Abdul Quddus was on his phone selling a refrigerator. When I asked about certain features of the vehicle, he referred me to the window sticker. I initially selected Dick Hannah Subaru because they were referred through USAA’s car buying service which both guaranteed the TruCar price as well as offering a .5% discount on financing. I arrived at Dick Hannah Subaru with a PRE-APPROVED loan from USAA and cash, intending to purchase and drive home a vehicle. The vehicle I selected was on the lot, but I was unable to drive it home for 9 days after purchase because of Dick Hannah Subaru's deceptive operation. Inquiring about the delay revealed the full extent of their deceptive operation. I asked why I could not yet take possession of the vehicle, and I was told that since I did not sign a "back up contract" at initial purchase, I could not take possession until my PRE-APPROVED loan check from USAA cleared in Dick Hannah's bank-- days after USAA confirmed wire transfer of the funds to Dick Hannah. I asked if I could sign a back up contract on the spot to take possession, and was told "no", because I did not have adequate credit. And this comes from a dealership with whom USAA has a regular working relationship and which was in fact referred by USAA. During our purchase experience I verbally requested that DH did not run a credit check, knowing I did not want to finance through the dealership. I was handed a form to sign anyway authorizing they run a credit check, so I wrote a note on it saying I did not give consent for a credit check. I was asked to fill out the form again without my note, and verbally told that it would be a background check rather than a credit check. It is illegal to check someone's credit without permission, which I maintain I did not give DH. They conned me into signing the credit check by telling me it was a background check. This is why I rate the dealership at a 1 for Customer Service, Friendliness, and Overall Experience. As far as pricing goes, it was terrible. I inquired about a couple vehicles, and was offered no incentives or other reasons to feel compelled to buy a car from them. I would have tried to up-sell me on a more expensive vehicle or a different package, at least once, and the fact that they didn't makes me feel like they really didn't care if I bought a car from them or not, and that they weren't listening to my interests and needs as a customer. The dealership was reluctant to consider my offer- priced by TrueCar through USAA’s purchasing service- until I threatened to go elsewhere. Abdul Quddus used the phrase "but I don't want my manager to yell at me" when I was negotiating for a better price, so I asked that he bring the manager out to talk to me. Magically, Abdul didn't get yelled at (that I could hear), and he was able to offer the TrueCar price. While signing paperwork with the finance manager Long Nguyen I was perpetually deceived. He failed to tell me that I was being recorded in his private office until the end of the conversation when he asked if I had more questions before he turned off the camera. When confronted about the failure to inform, he said, "oh". It is a felony to video and audio record someone without their knowledge. I have a knack for legalese and reveled in reading the entirety of the contract, to the displeasure of Long, who perpetually stuck his pen in my space and showed me where to sign. Because DH considered my vehicle "sold" before I was able to take possession, they take on an appearance of having more frequent sales than they do- which surely is an incentive for them to be able to purchase more (and thereby less expensive) vehicles wholesale from Subaru. By hanging on to my vehicle as well as my money, they were able to earn additional interest. Essentially they double counted my vehicle for a week as both an asset and an accounts receivable because they did not acknowledge my PRE-APPROVED loan and cash payment as sufficient to take possession of the vehicle, yet the same loan and payment were sufficient for them to consider the vehicle sold. I work for a large sportswear company near Portland, Oregon, and am a Doctoral student at a top-tier university. My colleagues are powerful and smart, qualities foreign to the shady employees at Dick Hannah Subaru. It is a matter of grassroots social justice that I share my unfortunate experiences at Dick Hannah Subaru with colleagues. It is in the best interest of our local business community that Subaru owners and aficionados take their business elsewhere. The opportunity revealed within this scandal of a sale is to commend Subaru on building reliable, affordable and appealing vehicles which sell themselves. Please avoid Dick Hannah Subaru. More
The rating for customer service and friendliness being great are due to the services we received from Mike El Krewi. His courtesy and willingness to make our visit as pleasant as possible was the only re great are due to the services we received from Mike El Krewi. His courtesy and willingness to make our visit as pleasant as possible was the only reason we ended up buying the car we had negotiated online. Erin Wallace also handled all the online negotiations in a timely and efficient manner. The price quoted us online was the best of several Subaru dealers we dealt with. She responded to all our questions regarding different models, colors, etc.in a very timely and professional manner. However, the reason for the overall experience being OK at best was due to the extended time and inconvenience we experienced spending all day waiting for the car we were told would be ready for us. My wife and our grandson were with me which made the wasted time all the more unpleasant for us. I had specifically stated that I needed for the car to be at this dealership location before making the lengthy drive from our home. When we arrived we were told by the sales manager that the car we wanted wasn't there yet but would be arrive without much delay. Six hours later the car arrived and we could complete the deal. One hour of that was spent with the financial manager redoing work that could have been completed while we were waiting. His attitude wasn't the best either. In short, with a little attention to detail by those responsible to secure the car and complete the paperwork this could have been a great overall experience. That's the reason I would recommend this dealership if they bring this review to the attention of those responsible for the delays. Gordon Enyeart More
I visited Dick Hannah Subaru unsure if I would qualify for a lease and was helped tremendously by sales person Sam Gibbs, who answered all my my questions and more. He introduced me to the Sales Manager for a lease and was helped tremendously by sales person Sam Gibbs, who answered all my my questions and more. He introduced me to the Sales Manager Kamal who showed me exactly the information I needed as soon as I asked. I actually didn't think I could get a Limited Legacy but I drove out in a Twilight Blue Legacy with 'all the fixins'! Sam and Kamal were a joy to visit with as well as buy from and even the paperwork that the finance person Ammar helped complete was painless! I am sure you will see me again at the end of my lease! I had called and made an appointment for the next day and drove out to be sure I could find the address. When I got there and talked with Ken and let him know I had my husband with me as I'm his caregiver,Ke drove out to be sure I could find the address. When I got there and talked with Ken and let him know I had my husband with me as I'm his caregiver,Ken said they could get to us while we were there and I wouldn't have to come back the next day. What a wonderful thing that was and I told him how much it meant for me ( to not have to leave Art and come back the next morning) I had my son-in-law bring the car in before to have the part that was recalled replaced, but this time we came in ourselves. We bought the car in Calif in April 2012 and it only had under 3000 miles on it but my husband wanted me to check on having the oil changed and because he can't do much anymore, I came in with it and Ken was kind enought to listen to us and I can't say enough about the kindness we were shone and the good service we recieved. Mike was quick and not too assertive while helping me in my process of finding a new vehicle. I didn't feel rushed and I didn't feel pressure to buy something I didn't want. Probably could have gotten a lit my process of finding a new vehicle. I didn't feel rushed and I didn't feel pressure to buy something I didn't want. Probably could have gotten a little more for my trade-in, but I felt the trade-in value was fair enough for what I was getting in place of it. Would have been nice to have had the car detailed before I got it, but I was told it just came on the lot and the detail-crew wasn't there on Saturday. With a little elbow-grease it got cleaned up and I was happy with the car. Everything was much easier and faster than I expected it to be. Thanks Mike! More
Just wanted to say thanks to the Dick Hannah Subaru team, especially Brian Ramsdell. Brian put up with us all day as we drove 4 different vehicles, then handled a complex trade in of more than one vehicle we owned. The guys were happy to negotiate to our needs, and we walked away happy. They even treated us to pizza when we were done! (Unusual and awesome to say the least.) Getting the extended warranty at a very reasonable price along with free tires for life was great too. We would definitely recommend this team to a friend. More
While I never am one to enjoy buying a new car, buying my new Forester was a fairly painless process.
