Dick Hannah VW of Portland

My parents went to Dick Hannah VW after having a not so pleasant experience with a sales consultant at Armstrong VW. Because of a problem Ekai had to find a way to get the car I wanted from Armstrong VW as pleasant experience with a sales consultant at Armstrong VW. Because of a problem Ekai had to find a way to get the car I wanted from Armstrong VW as soon as possible. He made it happen within the next day. I now have my dream car, a 2012 VW GTI. Long story short, he made the process quick and pain free. I recommend Ekai to anyone looking to buy a new car without the classic "Dealer Tricks" that you always hear about. I will be seeing him in 5 years when I am ready for my next car. :) More

I visited Dick Hannah in reference to a Volkswagen rabbit they had advertised on the internet at a very good price for years and miles. I drove 355 miles from Spokane WA. to Portland Oregon for a very dissap they had advertised on the internet at a very good price for years and miles. I drove 355 miles from Spokane WA. to Portland Oregon for a very dissapointing experience. Prior to making this trip I asked some very straight forward questions of the internet manager Jay and the salesman whom he referred me to, Amir. The main concerns I had were about availablilty of the vehicle if I was going to drive that far, value of my trade-in, and pre-arranged financing with my credit union. As to availability, the car was there when I got there on Saturday and was in very nice condition although it had been hastily detailed and smelled less than pleasant for a vehicle with only 20k miles. We took it for a couple test drives and were pleased with it's features and performance. We hoped the smell would air out. When we sat down to the deal the salesman had the manager value my trade, a 2005 V6 mustang coupe, which when asked for a rough value before we left were told it was impossible to do without seeing, understandable enough. What I didn't understand however was the offer 1000 below KBB trade-in value of "fair" condition. The car only had 56k miles on it with an excellent interior and at least good exterior which by KBB's own definitions was a good condition vehicle. After some negotiating they finally came up to 300 above the fair value, to 8200. I found that interesting since they had an 04 mustang v-6 coupe on their lot they were asking 10k for and it had 86k miles on it. They also had an 05 V6 coupe they wwere asking 12k for with 40k miles. I suppose they are a business and need to make a profit but felt they could have been more open and just said that, instead of battling for an hour to tell me MY car wasn't worth what it WOULD be worth if it was THEIR car. Moving on. When we came to the financing issue I had indicated at least 6 times I had financing through my credit union and asked would it be a problem and did I need anything from them before I came. The answer was the same, no problem. No problem for them, because all I had to do was sign a "back-up" contract with them at a higher percentage and have my credit union re-finance it when I got back to Spokane. (It was Sunday at this point and we could not contact my bank.) I wasn't comfortable with this so I left without the car and returned to Spokane. Here's the rub. On it's face none of these issues alone were that out of character for a dealership, but that's just it. It is 2012, and shouldn't we expect if not demand some character and integrity from the people we do business with. Car dealerships ARE evolving and some do seem to have realized the old pressure tactics and bait and switch type actions are just no longer acceptable. We as consumers have a duty to use our buying power and force these folks to change their tactis or face reduced sales. I would never buy a car from any Dick Hannah dealership and strongly reccommend others not to do so as well. I am sorely dissapointed that thier behavior is allowed to remain in the marketplace. We were interested in trading in our newer Volkswagen for an older Volkswagen. The newer one was purchased at this dealership back when it was Rey Reece and it was a wonderful experience. Sadly, this dealership is now a part of Dick Hannah. Our experience first involved far too much back and forth - lowballing our trade in, the sales representative going back and forth between us and the folks in the office. When we decided their offers were not good enough, the sales rep went "to get our keys" so we could leave, which mysteriously took about 5 minutes, because they were working on a different offer. More back and forth. We finally seemed to come to a reasonable point were both parties (us, dealer) were ready to do a deal. But then, there was "an open service order" on the vehicle we were wanting to purchase, and of course, the service department was gone by this time of day, and the sales rep was not able to verify if the repairs were done and the service order was just left open in error, or there were truly more repairs to do. This was after we had already been in to look at the vehicle a few days prior, and been in contact over the phone that very morning indicating we were interested in purchasing the vehicle. I would think they could have checked this at some point during the day...? So unfortunately the deal was on hold for the sales rep to verify that the vehicle "was sellable." The sales rep was supposed to call us back the next afternoon. Which did not happen. We finally called, and were informed that they had to do $1,500 worth of repairs on the vehicle, so the price we had almost negotiated the night before was going to go up $1,500 dollars. It's ironic as we test drove the vehicle 3 days prior and were told it was ready to go, and the issues we were told caused the $1,500 of repairs were not malfunctioning when we test drove it. This whole experience left a horrible taste in our mouths. This is the second horrible experience we have had with Dick Hannah's VW sales, and we will never go back. We are lifelong VW owners and there is no way whatsoever that we will ever go to VW of Portland/Dick Hannah for any VW sales or service. Ever. More
