Buying the car was pretty smooth with the exception of them trying to change the price after I paid. Now we had a contract so they had to the honor the price. Now we fast forward almost three months later no registration or plates basically everyone’s complaint. I paid the car in full no financing. According to my contact they are always messing something up and have to start over. Now i’m thinking its just an excuse and nothing has been submitted. Just send me the title ill deal with DMV. Brand new 50k vehicle and I cant even drive temp tags have been expired for a month. The worst experience ever!!!! More

On 8/19 I left a local dealership mid-purchase as I received approval from Driveway for a 2021 Buick Encore GX. Exactly what I was about to purchase AND with a lower interest rate! Sounds great right? Initially things were going great! My sales rep called me and asked for some information. Once everything was reviewed and approved I sent my $500 deposit and waiting anxiously for the next steps......CRICKETS. Nobody contacted me regarding the next stage and as a very patient person I assumed that they were preparing paperwork and contracts, etc. Not the case! Another rep reached out to me informing me a proposal would be on its way. I received it and sent it back within the hour then.....CRICKETS! AGAIN, nothing! So again me being patient I waited and waited. I contacted the new rep shortly after asking when temp tags and title arrive before my vehicle is delivered. only to find out they don't operate that way! They retrieve the down payment and promissory note BEFORE the vehicle arrives then 2-6 week AFTER delivery paperwork is mailed out. Chicken before the egg?? Ok.....? I called and spoke with so many reps I'm dizzy and breathless. Because my vehicle was being shipped from CA the vehicle is not required to have temp tags and therefore, doesn't! So my concern with every rep is just this - you're asking me to agree to pay $30k for a vehicle I can't even drive for the first 2 months? On top of that the support staff had no clue what the solution was as they are integrating a new system. I got a lot of "um" "maybe" "possibly" "I'm not sure" "I'll get back to you" "someone will be in contact" ONLY ONE rep I spoke to actually spent longer than 2 minutes on the phone with me! Eli out of the TX branch - very helpful and pleasant! He needs a raise I would 100% hire him because the rest I spoke to were unhelpful to say the least. Tracking down information is a hassle! I got my first callback this evening and to my surprise it wasn't anyone that was aware of my situation THEY WERE CALLING TO RETRIEVE THE REST OF MY DOWN PAYMENT! What dealership operates this way? My gut feeling told me to send my contract to my attorney. Good thing I did! He said there were several red flags and this will turn out to be the worst financial decision I could ever make. He is still on retainer in case they decide to not honor the refundable $500 deposit as stated on their website and payment agreement. I urge you all DO YOUR RESEARCH! ASK QUESTIONS! I am not saying don't work with this company because this is my own experience. I hope my review was helpful for those looking to purchase through driveway in NY. Similar to other complaints I have just read, I purchased my vehicle from Driveway June 14, 2022. It is now August 20 and I still don’t have title, registration, or my permanent license plate. I received a Florida 30 day temp tag that has long since expired. I have called and been told that I need to speak to a different person and they are conveniently enough unavailable. They have stopped communicating with me altogether. I have emailed countless times and the last actual communication BACK was the end of July where they stated they had had a change in staffing and apologized for the delay. No help! I have tried to stress the fact that I cannot continue to drive my vehicle without a valid tag! I had to cancel a family vacation out of state and was past the point of getting a refund-we lost $1,600!! I’ve even reached out to their parent company Lithia Motors who tells me that they are separate from Driveway and their transactions unfortunately… Yes definitely unfortunate for me! At this point I don’t know what else to do other than contact an attorney. I am in North Carolina driving with a very expired Florida temporary tag. This is exactly what another better known online dealership was recently in the news for and banned from doing business in several states because of!!! I have filed complaints with NCDOJ consumer complaints as well as the BBB-& I’m just getting started. This is unacceptable and NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS! More

Previously bought my car through Carvana so I had some idea of what to expect. Overall it’s quite an easy process and they offered me significantly more than anyone else for my trade-in ($10,000 differen idea of what to expect. The registering the car seems to continue to be a tough thing for these types of companies to execute on, but I can’t put the full blame on them. It also didn’t come with temp tags on it which they informed me I would need to figure out (they were willing to reimburse me for the cost) When I asked for some follow up the representative Shyla got with the team and within days I had an appointment made at the DMV, all necessary paperwork FedEx to the house and a check to cover all fees. Apparently the state of California won’t do anything if the car is purchased from someone out of state hence no temp tag and me having to go to the DMV where I live to fully register the car. The vehicle I picked is amazing and exactly what I expected after I did hours of research on it (which you should prior to any car purchase). Temper your expectation and know that processing a big purchase of this nature takes a bit of time, so if you need something immediately I would still recommend going to the dealership, but if you have time I highly recommend. Lastly, I have to truly sing the praise of Shyla. Every time I had a question/concern I easily would send a text and within no time I would have a response. What I truly appreciated about her was if she didn’t have an answer she went to find it and gave me timeframes of when I could expect an answer, then delivered it well before I was expecting. I work in the Hospitality Industry and I have to tell you it’s literally the little things that make an experience for me because it shows the compassion and attention to detail that is lacking with many companies today. Her attention, care and ability to connect was beyond words. And Shyla if you are ever looking for a job in Las Vegas you come find me and I will hire you no problem! So to finish this ramble off, be patient, do your research, and know this company is still growing so there may be some bumps in the road, but based on my experience they have good people in place to fight the good fight on your behalf! Not to say that pain points do not exist because in any large enterprise they do but my experience with Driveway has seen those issues of concern addressed in a most professional and expedient manner. A big shout out to Amey Ainsworth who made a huge difference in my case solving an issue that appeared to be unsolveable in a time that did not seem possible. Sounds like she worked a miracle. I believe she did! More
