After a thorough investigation into your concern regarding your seat latch, and an observation through recorded video monitoring, we have determined that the detail department did not attempt to adjust your rear seats in any manner when performing the detail work you requested. It is our standard policy to immediately report any damage that is noticed on a vehicle directly to the customer when it is found while servicing a customer’s vehicle. As you are aware, we offered to order the parts and repair the malfunction; however the day you presented this concern to us, 3 days after your visit to our facility, you stated that time was a concern as you were leaving for North Carolina and could not wait for the parts to arrive. At this point we suggested you contact your local Honda Dealer close to your home. We contacted the Honda dealership in North Carolina where you had the repair completed and spoke with the technician about the seat latch concern and concluded that they could not state that we were responsible for the seat latch malfunction and that it could have worn out from use. They confirmed the vehicle in question, a 2003 Honda Pilot with over 203,659 miles on the odometer. We can certainly sympathize with your situation concerning the seat latch malfunction, but due to the fact that it was reported to us several days after the service was performed in our facility, we cannot accept responsibility for their malfunction. I completely disagree with the assessment that the seats were not "adjusted". I don't know how you can definitively and honestly say that the seats were not moved, as I was told by your people that the video did not show the inside of the vehicle. Unless you have some unique way to clean a vehicle, it would be impossible to do the level of cleaning required in the detailing process without manipulating my seats up and down in order to clean them and vacuum the carpet under the seats and between the middle seats and the third row seat. The fact that I had two working seats when the car was brought in and they both were broken afterwards indicates that they broke while at your dealership. I had no reason to check weather the seats moved up and down until three days after the cleaning, when I was packing to leave FL the next morning. If one had been broken when I tried to put them down at that time, then you might be able to convince me it was a coincidence. The fact that both were inoperable indicates to me that the seats broke while at your dealership. My local dealership could not say you caused the problem, but they could also not say you didn't. When I asked them what they would have done in a case like mine, they indicated they would have taken some responsibility and worked out compensation. They stand behind their work, unlike Ed Morse Honda. I have owned vehicles for close to 40 years and this is the first time I have ever lodged a complaint like this. I have never had a dealer refuse to stand behind their work. The fact that my car is a 2003 with 200k+ miles has no correlation to this problem. I do not frequently put the middle row seats down. I'd also find it hard to believe that this is a "typical" repair on 2003 a Honda, or any other year Honda, for that matter. I will not change my review unless I am compensated for the cost of having the seats fixed.
