The buyer of this vehicle came to Florida from Georgia to buy the vehicle. He is a member of the military and asked to negotiate a price without any taxes. We discussed Georgia's tax rules and researched tax rates together online prior to negotiating the price. The customer told us as a military member he was exempt from tax and had already obtained and filled out the exemption form. In addition, he asked to have the title work completed immediately upon delivery. Normally, we mail the title and application directly to the county tag office in Georgia, which takes several days to process. In an attempt to meet the customer's request, our title clerk contacted the Georgia DMV and was told we could fill out the title and application, give it to the customer and instruct the customer to take it to his local tag office. We properly completed the title work and gave it directly to the customer at closing together with the address and phone number for his local tag office. We have heard nothing from the customer. It appears he was mistaken about the military tax exemption. Our actions did not cost the customer money. We do not control Georgia's tax rules, the customer specifically asked to negotiate a price without tax and we agreed to terms. With regard to the undisclosed "maintenance issues", we are not aware of any issues and have reached out to the customer. At this point he has not responded to our overture. However, after the customer test drove the vehicle, we provided him with copies of the original work orders showing all of the reconditioning performed on the vehicle. The customer's only requests were we replace wrinkled tinting on 2 windows and replace the vehicle's headliner. His requests were documented in writing at closing and the work was performed to the customer's satisfaction,prior to delivery. 1st Coast prides itself on selling clean, well serviced vehicles and we look forward to hearing back from this customer regarding his concerns. We are also sorry he feels as if we somehow bear responsibility for paying his lawful taxes for him.
