It's easy to do, Subar waited too long to replace the main drive belt. My mind was on other areas of the car and I neglected routine maintenance. It's easy to do, Subaru vehicles have a reputation for hard driving. Like a power tool that never lets you down, you keep using it. Maybe you can't get to it all, but at some point, you have to take care of the important things. For this car, that point was some time earlier then when I discovered shredded ribbons of rubber in front of the car. I had parked a foot further back than usual to avoid a mud puddle. It was a gift of vision, as I checked the engine bay I could clearly see the main belt hanging together. It was a frightening sight to behold however. Just two or three vanes of the belt held at the rip. I would not be driving this car now. After an emergency call to Five Star, greeted with calming words, and an excellent towing experience, I was in the shop within a few days. I don't know if they had the belt for an older model on hand, I couldn't say since they had it ready when I arrived. Was it ordered and delivered that quickly? Before I could ponder further on the supply chain of Subaru parts, the car was finished, ready with a new drive belt and an oil top off. I know I repeat this, but you truly can feel the improvement with each repair. Not speaking with any car or driving authority, just regular driving can show you. The drive belt connects to the power steering. Handling saw an immediate improvement: much more responsive, much more accurate in a turn. Should I have waited until the engine chewed the belt to replace it, definite no. But I didn't notice. This is why you always see and hear reminders to stay on top of the routine items. There isn't a sensor for everything, and the car may drive so well and far you take small things for granted. Going back in time for this car must be a journey, and Five Star always does go there, in particular the parts department, who begin a new archaeology hunt for each item requested. Somewhere there exists a rosetta stone of Subaru parts numbers. When you talk to the front team, you may as well be in the R&D department of Subaru Corporation itself. You simply cannot find a more complete bank of information about your car. No amount of internet searching will get you the wealth of knowledge they possess. I would describe the writers as our expert detectives and translators. Everything they know, they refine into a description the customer understands. This means they have to know the customer, what makes sense to them. Even the most complex situations are clarified. Ask about oxygen sensors and you will see what I mean. Understanding and acceptance are paramount here. The cars are much more similar than the people, and I can say first hand that nearly anyone can be found at Five Star on a random day. No matter that the car is a 2024 wilderness with gold warranty or a 1999 RS widebody with roadrash (hp?), everyone gets full consideration and the highest level of treatment. Speaking only with the front of house operations, it's not immediately discernable how much goes on behind the glass door. On the last visit, the operating room looked like a factory. Every lift was up and light poured in on what seemed like a village hard at work. Each car had a technician I recognized plus assistants on the job. Diagnostic computers lined the bays alongside unknown specialized equipment. Seeing the resources and energy going into each vehicle truly inspires confidence. A special thanks always to the clean team. Anyone in the upstate area can attest to the harshness and volume of road grit collected. They get all those corners around the wheels that the automatic wash doesn't reach. It may seem like an afterthought but this is a superb service I am very thankful for. A truly stellar experience as always. More
