Back in November I had been interested in leasing an XC70. With about a month remaining on my (then) current lease, I had done the research, chose the packages I wanted and went to this dealership beca XC70. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. I walked into the showroom and browsed around. I was greeted by David Cohen, who was helping someone at the time but assured me he would be right with me. So far so good. He was very pleasant and polite and was far from the "salesman" type (you all know the type I'm referring to). After a brief discussion of the car, I agreed to come back another day to go for a drive after sorting out some circumstances. A few days later I returned. We went for a drive. Pleased with the car, I was ready to make a deal. After putting the numbers together, he came up with a monthly payment (over $600). It was MUCH higher than what I expected. OK, nothing new, having leased several cars before, this is not shocking. I had then told him a price range that I would be comfortable with (note: my goal was to be fair and not low-ball since afterall, they have to make money). He then has to "consult" with his manager. This is the point where things went sour. The manager comes over, shakes your hand, sits down, and then the pitch begins and you're treated like a sucker who was born yesterday. Guys, with the whole "bring out the manager" routine, you're not re-inventing the wheel here. After he attempted to convince me what a "great deal" this was, I had been turned off and left. At a different dealership, I found the same car (options and conditions) to be $100 a month less. Today I am a proud owner of an XC70 that I got elsewhere (see review for Karp Volvo). The most unfortunate part of this story is that I really liked David Cohen and wanted to do business with him, but the manager (it was either the sales manager or the general manager) and his obnoxious strategy ruined the experience. Hassel Volvo made my process of buying my first car hassle less. I have only leased cars (2 Volvos: 01 S40 & 05 S60, and most recent a 08 Honda accord) and went in to test drive the new S60 which I lov hassle less. Frank the manager came up to my Dad and I and said I think I have a car that is perfect for you. I really wanted to be back in a Volvo for the security and peace of mind having AWD and the winter mode offers. He showed me an 07 S60 that had everything I wanted and more. Ann Marie was outstanding with guiding me on what would be the best financing plan would be for my current financial situation. I left feeling confident and excited! They treat you like family. I was car shopping for about a month before I purchased my new XC90 at Hassel Volvo. I dealt with manipulation, deceitfulness, and just plain bad salemanship in many dealerships across long island until I went to Hassel Volvo. Bernie was extremely professional and warm upon our introduction and both my wife and I immediately felt comfortable dealing with him. He didnt play the games and immediately had me sit with Frank the general manager to find a price that was suitable for both of us. Frank was nothing but courteous and professional from the moment we walked in the door as well. We went to Hassel on a busy Saturday and on crutches,yes on crutches, Frank made it a point to walk up to us to let us know that they were swamped and assured us we would be helped by the next available sales associate. That type of customer service and friendliness is what won us over at Hassell. Forget all the other dealerships and go buy your vehicle at Hassel with Bernie and frank. You won't be dissapointed!!! By the way, I dont want to forget to mention that the finance person I dealt with (Anne Marie) was also nothing but nice and accomodating. There was no hassle with choosing Hassel Volvo! Everyone was friendly and helpful. For the first time in years, I bought a car without feeling rushed, degraded, or manipulated. The staff took the time out to explain things to me and treated me as a friend as apposed to another business transaction. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that Hassel Volvo holds a dinner once a month to educate their owners on their vehicles and introduce them to their maintenance team so they do not feel like strangers when it's time for a service. It was an honor to do business with such a stellar team and hope to work with them again in the future! More
Details are the ones that count! Today I picked up my XC 90 at the service department after spending over $2,700 in parts and labor. The service rep definitely did a great job to make sure all the charges were taking care off but he did forget that the small details are the ones that make a difference. After the charges were taking care off he got my car and handed to me the keys but I think he forgot at least to check that my car was at least wiped in the outside or even in the inside after expending that amount of money. I am 100% sure that every single car dealership after expending that amount of money will do so. I mentioned to the service manager and he offered to wash my car but I needed to wait for 10 minutes at least. I do appreciate his wiliness to do so but to start he needs to train his service representatives better regarding details and to be a little more proactive specially that my car was ready since Thursday and they knew that I was picking my car on Saturday. This will be the last time I will bring my car over to your dealer for repairs or maintenance after expending so much money and poor customer care. Very disappointed!!!! More
Between me and Hassel Volvo, there are at least 6 other volvo dealers I could have shopped at. Hassel Volvo was located 40 miles away from where I live. In fact, the closest Volvo to me is only 5 minutes away from my house. Yet, I chose to buy at Hassel. For starters, their communication was amazing via email, text, and phone call. Any question I had was literally answered in minutes. My salesman, David Cohen, was always respectful and courteous. This was almost a "no-negotiation needed" deal as his original offer was quite fair. Even so, he matched another offer I obtained from my insurance company buying service without question. With regards to my trade-in, Hassel also offered me the most for my car. Everyone at the dealership who I worked with, including GM Frank and Finance speacilist Ann Marie, were truly a pleasure to work with. I have never had such a pleasant car buying experience thanks mostly to David Cohen. I highly recommend Hassel Volvo, specifically Dave Cohen, to anyone who is interested in buying car - Great dealership, Great salesman, Great prices!!! Marc D. More
