SCAM ARTISTS: BUYERS AND LEASERS BEWARE Buying or leasing a car can be a stressful experience for consumers. And I feel it is my duty as a consumer to warn others when I have had a horrific experience or whenever I encounter crooks. I hope this review helps you make a better purchasing decision, because we all work hard for our money, and I would not want you to fall into the same trap I did when I tried to lease a car at Hawthorne Chevrolet in New Jersey. I can assure you, this is not a place to negotiate if you are looking for an honest salesmen who offers and sticks to a fair price. (see below) I spent 2 weeks working on a deal with Gary Monnecka. Each day we spoke and each day he forget what we agreed to on the previous day. It's as if he had amnesia from one day to the next, as he attempted to change his offer throughout the entire process. The day finally arrived where I supplied Gary with all the necessary paperwork. Gary processed and vetted all the paperwork, got his affairs in order and then submitted to me in writing an approved deal that I felt was fair. I was then instructed to provide a deposit and to call my insurance company. I gave Gary the deposit to hold the cars and provided the insurance ID card and binder. The only task left to do was to sign paperwork and pick up both cars. BUT then, Gary started making accusations, that I misunderstood the deal, that he couldn't apply some of the discounts he had promised. He began to play games after he had taken a deposit and told me the deal and all the paperwork was approved. He began his scam by raising one of the lease prices, justifying his decision with reasons we never agreed to and reasons that were never disclosed to me. I then spoke with Jeffrey Mays who is the general manager, pleaded my case and was told to be patient while he reviewed the information from Gary that I provided to Jeffrey in writing. Seven hours later, and only after I reached out via email, I received a response from Jeffrey. Jeffrey had decided to increase the price on both leases, again justifying the increase with reasons I had never agreed to. Apparently, to cover his backside, Gary had told his boss lies about what we agreed upon as an approved deal. I suspect Gary approved a deal he was not supposed to offer customers and his boss tried to correct Gary's mistake at my expense. Gary is a shady character and his boss Jeffrey is a disgrace to the profession. Jeffrey should not be a general manager who handles customers and obviously tried to correct a mistake his employee made. To side with an employee over a customer that has written proof of an approved deal, vetted paperwork and whom provided a deposit is absurd. It's not only that they raised the prices after I had an approved deal, put a deposit down, and had my insurance company supply documentation, it's how much of my time they wasted. If they see no value in your time and are willing to string you along for as long as it takes to get what they want, then where is the trust? Even the slightest amount of honesty and trust is vital when conducting business. So again, please heed my warning or else you will lose countless hours being scammed by unprofessional car salesmen. More

Steve is aces I've used Hawthorne Chevy ever since I bought my 2003 Z06 back in 2014 & I would not trust anyone but Steve Kochan to manage it. I initially brough I've used Hawthorne Chevy ever since I bought my 2003 Z06 back in 2014 & I would not trust anyone but Steve Kochan to manage it. I initially brought it in for a 60k mile servicing [bought it with ~61k miles]. It was done quickly but throughly; Steve let me know the potential services that may need to be done in the future, as well as any immediate issues he could see. Also, I noticed that my driver's seat did not have the Z06 stitching on it when I first bought the car - the passenger seat did, but the drivers' side did not. That bothered me a bit & made the car look unbalanced a little. Anyways, after the original 60k inspection, I noticed Z06 stitching on the drivers' seat. I was floored.. truly made my day & still makes me smile when I get in the car. Those "little" things can make a huge difference.. Since that initial inspection, I have brought the car back for routine maintenance [now has 81k miles & runs/feels like new]. They have experience working on corvettes in particular, so they can spot usual issues with the cars & can get ahead of anything that may pose a problem. Their turn-around times are quite fast - even though that is not really as much of a concern as the quality of work to me, it's still nice to have the car back relatively quickly. However, if they are busy, I don't mind waiting because Steve does such a great job - quality over quantity is how I feel & i've never been disappointed. I don't mind paying their prices because they have always seemed reasonable when it comes to final cost - Steve always checks with me before doing anything & makes sure we're on the same page; it's to the point that I can probably predict what they'll work on the next time it goes in for servicing. Nice to know there won't be any surprises on the bill & that they take time to work with their customers. Everything is annotated in their paperwork very neatly & very clearly, so understanding what is going on with your vehicle cannot be made any simpler. Nobody but Steve Kochan will ever manage the service/repairs on my Z06. He is the stand-out example of how to properly treat a customer & their vehicle. Could not be more impressed/happy with his work; would recommend him to anyone. More

I was hounded relentlessly by the advertising department after submitting a True Car quote estimate. When I finally went to the dealership I was greeted by a salesperson who was pleasant and accommodating. Unfortunately, the dealership seemed to be overwhelmed by even the smallest requests. I test drove a vehicle with the salesperson and found it satisfactory. Upon return to the dealership we discussed pricing and came to an agreement on what I believed was a good deal for the vehicle. The dealership then gave me an estimated time of over three hours to take delivery of the car. The salesperson told me that I should just return the next day to take the car. We signed the paperwork for the car and my wife returned the next day to pick up the car on Thursday June 1, 2017. I was away until Friday June 2, 2017 and did not drive the vehicle until that date. When I drove the car I noticed that it was missing many of the features that were in the car I test drove. I called the dealership and left a message with the manager that evening and did not hear back from them all weekend. On Monday June 5, 2017 I called the dealership again to speak with my salesperson, only to find out that it was his day off and I was informed that he would return my call the next day. The salesperson did return my call on Tuesday June 6, 2017. When I spoke with him I informed him that I was not happy with the vehicle because it was essentially a downgraded version of what I test drove. He became defensive and immediately claimed that I agreed to fewer options to lower the price of the vehicle. Although the salesman said he remembered having this conversation, minutes later he incorrectly identified me as another customer he believed he had dealt with the previous week. I had to remind him what car I was referring to and describe my wife and our trade in before he remembered us. I cannot recall at any time during our conversation that I was informed I would be receiving a vehicle with different options than the one I test drove. He informed me over the phone when I called for clarification that he removed features to get the car price to the range I wanted. Further, I cannot rely on the salesman's word that he informed me of this, as he could not even remember who I was four days later. I have never purchased a vehicle from a dealership when I have not test driven that exact car. Confusion in the wording aside, I think allowing a customer to test drive a fully loaded vehicle and then provide them with a downgraded version of what they initially experienced is extremely poor practice and unprofessional. Overall, my experience was extremely unsatisfactory and left me with a very negative experience of the dealership and car brand, as I am a first time Chevrolet purchaser. It upsets me greatly that I have to take this negative experience with me for the next three years of a lease with a company I now feel does not care about my satisfaction, therefore I cannot in good conscience recommend this dealership or brand to anyone. I feel cheated and purposely confused by the dealership, and that is the only recommendation that I can give to prospective buyers who ask my opinion. More
