I visited Gene Reed Toyota-Scion on March 26, 2009 looking to purchase a used car. I visited a number of dealerships that week and was tired and annoyed by their arrogance. I got to Gene Reed early th looking to purchase a used car. I visited a number of dealerships that week and was tired and annoyed by their arrogance. I got to Gene Reed early that morning in order to look around and not be crowed by salesmen. After I saw two cars I liked, salesmen Robert Powell served me and he had a great attitude, making me feel good about coming into Gene Reed. I was then sent to Dwayne Ladson, Finance Manager. After a while, in his office, I started to feel like I was at one of the previous dealerships. We were able to finance the car and I put down $2500.00. Dwayne then brought up extra warranty. I informed him that I did not want extra warranty, so I sign paper work to that affect. Before signing the sales contract, I noticed there was a $1631.70 added to the price for Fidelity Warranty. When I questioned that, Dwayne told me that the finance agent preferred that all their cars have warranty mind you the car is still covered under warranty. I took his word and signed the contract. I went to make my first payment on May 11, 2009 and asked about the warranty. I was told they did not require extra warranty for a car loan. I felt angry and deceived by Gene Reed Toyota. I like my car, but I do not see myself at this point, choosing Gene Reed in the future. More
My husband and I had a very good experiance on Gene Reed. Our first employee experiance was with Brandi Smith who helped get in contact with a sales guy who was John Cole. The service personnel was friendly and quick to provide shuttle service when dropping off our 07 Sequoia for warranty work. After assessing the problem, we were initially told that the DVD player that was shuttle service when dropping off our 07 Sequoia for warranty work. After assessing the problem, we were initially told that the DVD player that was in the vehicle at the time of purchase appeared to be an aftermarket product and would not be covered under warranty. We immediately called the dealership that sold us the vehicle who confirmed that it was a Toyota part and should be covered under warranty which he communicated to the service rep at Gene Reed Toyota. We were told the following day that they were unable to cover the repair under warranty without verification of the installer which he was unable to obtain from the dealership that sold us the vehicle. We called the service dept at the other dealership once again and they faxed a copy of the work order to the Gene Reed service rep who agreed to cover the work under warranty. We were disappointed both in the initial erroneous communication regarding the DVD player's waarnty coverage status as well as our level of involvement as an intermediary between the two service departments in clearing up the issue. At no point did the Gene Reed service rep seem apologetic, but rather provided a litany of inconsistent explanations as to why the inaccurate information was communicated. My wife and I have owned 8 Toyota vehicles (2 Celicas, 1 Camry, 2 4-Runners, 1 Sienna, 1 Sequoia and 1 Highlander) between the two of us dating back to when we were in college, and we continue to purchase them because of their quality and reliability. We had a few unpleasant service experiences at Gene Reed Toyota in the past, but had actually found the level of service to be quite good in recent years especially since the move to the new location a few years ago. This visit will no doubt be our last and has us both questioning why with so many other options that we continue to purchase from this manufacturer when our local dealership makes it so unpleasant to own them. From the second I walked into the door I was greeted, and the sales person immediately asked me what I was looking for, and took me to the lot to look at cars within my price range. I never felt pressured t the sales person immediately asked me what I was looking for, and took me to the lot to look at cars within my price range. I never felt pressured to buy the car, and was able to add the options that I wanted, and still get a good deal on the car. From the salesperson, to the financing staff, everyone treated me with respect, and if I were to purchase in the future I would choose a Gene Reed dealership, even though I live in Ohio!!! The salesperson has already called me several times to make sure that I am still happy with my decision. I definitely recommend Gene Reed and Michael Halls to anyone in North Charleston looking to purchase a vehicle. More

In December of 2008 I decided I wanted to purchase a new Tacoma. I currently owned one and love the quality of Toyota. I stopped in to look around and see what was on the lot. The salesman was friendly a Tacoma. I currently owned one and love the quality of Toyota. I stopped in to look around and see what was on the lot. The salesman was friendly and showed me what I was looking for. I asked about the price and he immediately said I would have to speak to a sales manager. I went in to discuss the price of the two trucks I was looking at. He made me wait an extremely long time before I could even talk to him about the price, after finally speaking to him he refused to budge on anything and continually insulted my intelligence by dropping the price but adding the options I wanted at a premium price to bring it right back to where we started. At one point he actually asked me "what makes you think we will give you that truck at the price you are asking for". I told him frankly the economy is down and I am not asking that much off, I figured a dealership would be willing to move a little. I was only asking to drop the price by 3k. He really seemed to talk down to me and almost tried to bully me into his terms. I might have been willing to pay the price if I was treated with respect. Needless to say I did not purchase a vehicle from them and went two doors down to Hudson Nissan. I found a fantastic Nissan Frontier with every option I could ever want for a very reasonable price. They treated me with respect and I felt comfortable spending my money there right from the start. I couldn't be happier with my decision, my friend and I were so impressed with their service he bought a fully loaded Titan from them a few weeks later. My wife currently drives a Toyota Sequoia but the next full size SUV just might be a Nissan Armada. More
My wife and I bought a 2008 Sequoia March of 2008. At the time of purchase we were promised by Ed (our salesman) that my parents would receive a check for $100.00 for a referral fee, since he bought a 20 the time of purchase we were promised by Ed (our salesman) that my parents would receive a check for $100.00 for a referral fee, since he bought a 2008 Tundra from Gene Reed in Jan. 2008. I spoke with Ed twice after the sale and was promised it would be "in the mail". A few months went by with no check, so I started asking Patrick (Ed's Supervisor) about the check and was promised it would be taken care of. We took my wife's Sequoia in for its 10k mile service in early January (what a disaster that was). At that time I discussed the matter with Ronald Hannon and was promised it would be taken care of again. It is a shame for this little thing to put such a bad taste in our mouth for Gene Reed Toyota, I own a construction company and it is the little details that separate the men from the boys and Gene Reed Toyota is still in the little boys category in my opinion. Toyota is the only brand of vehicle I will own because they do pay attention to those little details. I am proud to say I drive a 2007 Tundra that I bought from another dealer and at this point should have made the drive to Orangeburg to buy the Sequoia also. Ben More
Ron Hannon was a competent and knowledgeable salesman to work with, comfortable dealing with me over the phone. After two weeks of visiting dealers and test driving cars across Charleston, I called him and work with, comfortable dealing with me over the phone. After two weeks of visiting dealers and test driving cars across Charleston, I called him and explained that I knew exactly what I wanted. Within a few minutes, he had located six new '08 4runners, which had rebates of $4000.00, obviously saving me more of an expense of purchasing an '09. The other local Toyota dealer never mentioned these were available. He knew I needed it within two days for our daughter's birthday present- no problem. Everyone we met that night was friendly and did not complain about staying late. Ron Hannon receives an "excellent" rating in all categories from my husband and me. Janet Sosnowski More
