We certainly understand your concern for your daughter’s safety…we also know, as parents ourselves, that when our kids are in dangerous situations, we as parents, get very defensive. We are very sorry that Ashley experienced those mechanical problems but be assured that we have the highest regard for the safety of all of our customers. The 2002 vehicle purchased in July is twelve (12) years old with 115,916 miles on it. We cannot, and do not, put any guarantees on this type vehicle, which is why we emphatically disclose that the vehicle is being sold “AS IS”. We cannot foretell if a used car of that age and mileage will have mechanical problems. If we had had any suspicion that a problem existed with the engine or transmission, we wouldn’t have sold the vehicle to you, or anyone. Ashley, and her father (Joe), took the car for a lengthy test drive, and upon returning to the dealership they commented that “the car seemed to be a pretty solid car.” As for your comment of “never recommending anyone to get a used car from them (us)…”, we, too, do not recommend anyone buying an ‘AS IS’ vehicle when used vehicles with warranties are available. We are very happy that your daughter is safe, and we’re sorry that the Hyundai is not as reliable as we all hoped it would be.
