Mr. Blattner, We have tried to reach out to you because we believe there was a misunderstanding in buying out your leased vehicle. We do agree that the lease buyout is $17.5K plus tax, tag, and dealer fee of $999. The only other cost there could be is for a safety inspection. When someone buys out their lease, we must ground the vehicle, then purchase it, then sell it back to the customer. So, we do a safety inspection on the vehicle to make sure the vehicle is safe to drive, so we aren’t liable for an unsafe vehicle. As for getting another leased vehicle from 10,000 miles to 12,000 miles would actually be an $11 a month difference, not a $50-$60 difference. Mr. Blattner, we would like the opportunity to try and help you, to make this right if you are still willing to work with us.

Jenkins Kia of CR: There was no "misunderstanding" because it was clear that your dealership willfully, intentionally, and deliberately attempted to advise me that the purchase of my end-of-lease vehicle would be approx. $2K over the contracted price (residual value), plus the standard tax, title, and registration, PLUS a $999 so-called "dealer fee," and to attempt to exaggerate the amount required to have 12k miles/year versus 10k miles/year. I have the clear, written quotes, so please, no corporate double speak with me. I am glad that your office now agrees (now that I've gone public, to include the BBB), that the purchase price is the same as what is on the lease (the contracted, guaranteed residual amount). Regarding the so-called "safety inspection," this is not accurate. I spoke with Kia Motors and confirmed that vehicles do not need to be "grounded" in that dealers don't need to take possession of the car and perform a "safety inspection." Lessee-buyers can submit a self-assessment of the vehicle. (Note, Service Dep't has ongoing records, so if the car was unsafe to drive, the dealership would know, so you're really questioning yourself...) Upon further research, one can purchase the leased car elsewhere, with NO so-called dealer fee and with having to submit only a self-assessment of the car's condition. This was a deliberate and willful attempt of hoping to squeeze as much as your office could from an existing, loyal Kia customer. As for making it right, perhaps start with a sincere apology and taking ownership of this intentional effort to squeeze in the hopes that I was naïve to buy into it, to include asking $4K OVER MSRP for a new vehicle. Of the number of cars that I've bought and leased over the years, this overall experience was definitely a first and and to the extent that I know I will not be returning.
