My Volvo was towed to this dealership on a Sunday after breaking down. I was an hour from home and didn’t know any places in town. AAA took it there for me. The dealer called on Monday morning and explaine breaking down. I was an hour from home and didn’t know any places in town. AAA took it there for me. The dealer called on Monday morning and explained what they thought the problem was. I asked a few questions because I wasn’t sure they’d really looked at every possibility. They insisted they knew what was up but I still called my usual mechanic who said I needed to get them to look again to double check their diagnosis. I called back with plans to have the vehicle towed away rather than let them work on it. They acted upset with me and insisted I owed them $100 for their diagnostic fee. I regretfully paid it before questioning what they were asking for. The only diagnostic they performed was the same thing O’Reilly’s offers for free. Once my usual mechanic showed me the real problem I was even more ticked that Machens claims their diagnoses was worth $100. Had I gone with their $900 repair my alternator still would not have charged the battery because that wasn’t the problem. They would have only passed me on then or charged who knows how much before they saw they real issue. I contacted them multiple times to request a refund or even get an explanation about what their technician did to my vehicle and only one person actually spoke to me long enough to give me the runaround. Since then my voicemails and texts have been ignored. Around here the Machens dealerships are well known and claim to be a local business who cares about their customers, but my experience is that they only care about getting a buck any way possible even when they haven’t earned it. I’m definitely disappointed by their quality of work and in their disregard of common courtesy in following up with me. I don’t recommend them and will go out if my way to ever avoid doing business with them in the future. More
