Searched over 9 months and kept coming up with Volvo. Unable to afford a brand new Volvo, I looked into used and found a 2013 that listed features that would benefit me and within my budget. Called before going in and spoke to Marianne who sent me the listing on the car, priced at 24k and a clean report (which I also requested my insurance company to check) Went into dealership confident of the number, I was very clear on what I wanted to spend and what I was putting down. Salesmen will be salesmen although completely unnecessary to take advantage of someone who is legally blind. All said and done I was overcharged 500.00 on the list price and the 2nd key was not even for the car I bought. Returned to Karp the very next day (less than 24 hours from sale) to let them know of the mistake and the key situation. Sales rep literally ran into another office (I knew exactly what they were doing although they did not know I already had printed out the details on the car) the listing was magically gone. Sales rep said "we paid you 5k for your car and not worth that, you will not get the 500.00 back" That was their price on the trade in not mine. Not only was the key not for the car I bought but the "Manager" said it would take all day to find the correct key in a" basket of keys". I never expected this from Karp, a reputable "family business" I asked for them to arrange an appointment with service so I could obtain a key, although neither one would help- told me they were closed and I needed to arrange it myself. I was very Thankful that when I went to service department the man there was extremely helpful and that may be the only saving grace for Karp. The man in service department asked me if I had "we owe you paper" from sales. I looked at him and said "Of Course Not" it almost seemed if he had heard this before and had me out of there with a key that worked in under an hour. I am extremely disappointed in Karp, Volvo is an outstanding car too bad sales reps are rotten to the core!!! I have emailed the sales rep 6 times and not 1 email has been responded to, as I expected. Sent an email to Marianne, she responded by asking me to contact sales rep. Obviously a run around and feel that my only option at this point is to send everything to the Attorney General. More
Poor Treatment During My Visit Karp Volvo seems like a reputable dealership, but I feel it's necessary to share the negative experience I had during my first and only visit. Mostly, Karp Volvo seems like a reputable dealership, but I feel it's necessary to share the negative experience I had during my first and only visit. Mostly, it's a result of the Assistant Sales Manager who I had to deal with. Strike One: I made an appointment to see a specific pre-owned car at a specific time. You'd figure they'd have the car ready and placed in a location where I'd easily be able to inspect it and take it for a test drive, but no -- it was crammed into the corner of one of their lots, head first, with two other cars parked behind it and another car parked next to it. Strike Two: The Assistant Sales Manager couldn't even find the key to the car. While I stood out there waiting, he went into another building to look for it. When he finally came out with the key, I figured he'd have some help to move the other cars out of the way. Nope. He just unlocked the car I wanted to look at and invited me to sit in the driver's seat. Strike Three: He sat in the passenger seat while I looked around at the interior and started the engine. About a minute later, before I could ask many questions, he said he was going back into the office to pull the paperwork. And then he got out of the car and left me there. Strike Four: I sat there by myself for another minute, listening to the engine run and testing some of the other features. Then I got out and opened the hood and the trunk so I could have a look. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the Assistant Sales Manager standing at the front entrance, waiting for me to finish inspecting the car -- as if he had something better to do. Strike Five: We got back to his office and he started going over the options for financing. During a break in the conversation, I finally found a moment to let him know that I'd like to take the car for a test drive. Here was his response: "You're fine. Car's great. Runs great. Drove it myself." Are you kidding me? A test drive is a basic and important part of anyone's visit to a dealership, especially when you're looking at a pre-owned car. When a salesperson gives this sort of response, you have to understand that it raises all sorts of skepticism and red flags. Why would you not welcome a test drive? Strike Six: I told him that I was going to think about it for a while, and I wrote some notes down on a piece of paper. Then, as if to try and pressure me, here's what he said: "You can think about it, but I gotta tell you... we sell a lot of cars. So if you're really interested, call me back within a couple of days and I'll take a deposit over the phone and take the car out of our inventory." Right. So you hardly give me the time of day, won't let me take the car for a test drive, and now you want me to hurry up and give you a deposit over the phone before someone else buys the car? Okay. Conclusion: Like I said, Karp seems like a reputable dealership, and my issues aren't really with Karp as much as they are with this particular Assistant Sales Manager. If anyone at Karp is reading this, please tell your salespeople to avoid this type of treatment, and to never answer a request for a test drive by saying, "You're fine. Car's great. Drove it myself." Responses like that are exactly why so many people think of car salesmen as being shady and untrustworthy. _______________ More
