After realizing that something was happening with my 2015 Hyundai Sonata motor in that the engine oil was depleting at an abnormal rate, I decided to take the vehicle to Keffer Hyundai in Matthews (off hwy 7 Hyundai Sonata motor in that the engine oil was depleting at an abnormal rate, I decided to take the vehicle to Keffer Hyundai in Matthews (off hwy 74) and asked them to do a "oil consumption test". They asked me to leave the car at the dealership for a day or two while they did the check, only for the car to remain at the dealership for 7 days. I paid for an oil change and filter change, at which point they asked me to drive the car for approx. 1000 miles and to return to the dealership for them to make sure the issue was no longer happening. This process was repeated again, and this time the car remained at the dealership for 4 days. Having the car remaining at the dealership for this long obviously is a huge problem for transportation purposes. After this entire debacle, Hyundai finally decided to give me an engine replacement, due to a manufacturing recall on the vehicle, and during this time I was provided with a rental. After over a month the engine was finally replaced and I was finally given my car back. Less than 10 days later, the check engine light is on. Immediately, I took the car back to the same dealership to see what the issue was. The issue now was a "variable charge motion actuator (VCMA)" and was told that this fix was going to come out of my pocket when speaking with Hyundai representatives Stephanie and a mechanic. I asked them where the part was located on the engine and if this was something that was removed or altered during the engine replacement, to which Stephanie, over the phone, let me know that this piece was "untouched". I came to find out later from a mechanic when I went into the dealership, that this part was removed from the top of the engine in one complete piece as a part of the cover, which I had suspected to begin with. The mechanic proceeded to try to convince me that this piece could not have been damaged during the engine replacement, which I vehemently disagreed with and let Stephanie know directly at the time. I was brushed aside and told I would be forced to pay the labor and parts for this fix, totaling $689.45. Not only do I feel like I was tricked and wronged into paying for this, on top of being without my vehicle and no rental for almost 2 full weeks, this dealership, Keffer Hyundai of Matthews, is the worst customer service and business I have ever dealt with. I will NEVER again enter any Hyundai for a purchase or for service and I can promise you I will let everyone I can know about this awful experience and group. More
I purchased a 2017 Subaru Forester from Keffer in mid-October. They did not tell me about any issues with the car, and all of their literature touts their 125 point inspection. When I took the Forester to my local Subaru dealer a few days later for a once over, they found approximately three thousand dollars worth of issues, including a bent control arm and multiple failed bushings on control arms, sway bars, and end links. There were also four separate oil leaks, two from the turbo, one from the PCV, and one from the oil pan. Additionally, the vehicle had failing bearings on both sides in the rear. These were not disclosed to me, either. Thankfully, I knew what the noise meant when I heard it on the test drive and was able to negotiate a discount to cover most of the cost of repairing those. After reaching out to my sales rep, he provided me with a bill from a local auto shop showing all the work they had done to it before they listed it for sale. Routine maintenance things like oil change, filter change, brakes, bulb replacement. There was also a charge for an inspection, which was clearly sub par. After providing documentation from my Subaru dealership regarding the issues with the suspension, Keffer told me that there was nothing more they were going to do to rectify the issues, even though they are potential safety concerns, especially the missing bushing on the control arm and the physical damage/deformation to the control arm. Avoid at all costs. I wish I had done more research on this dealership before purchasing from them, they have plenty of bad reviews floating around, even on the new Hyundais they sell and issues that arise with them. From a used car listing on their website: “All of our vehicles have been reconditioned and serviced with 125-point inspection giving you peace of mind.” Let me assure you that I do not have peace of mind right now, only anger at their lack of good business practices and disregard for the safety and wallet of me, their customer.
