After one year, forte has catatrophic engine failure I bought a Forte here at this dealership about a year ago. The sales team was great, and worked with me to fix an issue with the engine before I took I bought a Forte here at this dealership about a year ago. The sales team was great, and worked with me to fix an issue with the engine before I took it home. Last week, however, while driving, the car stalled while driving at freeway speeds, and the power steering and brakes would not work. I was able to avoid a serious accident, thankfully, and after rolling to lower speeds, I was able to use the emergency break to stop. After this, the car would not start, and I had to have it towed. After investigating, they found metal shavings in the oil and found that a rod bearing had failed. This would require a new engine. Since my car was just over 100,000 miles, they would not entertain the idea of a covering any of it via a warranty. This is frustrating, because if this engine failure happened a couple months ago, it would have been under the 100,000 mile threshold for a warranty, and more importantly, I could have easily been in a serious accident because of the issue. After looking online, I found I was not the only person who has had catastrophic engine failure with their Kias due to the same problem. In fact, a couple years ago, Hyundai/Kia extended warranties on some cars to because of this issue. Long story short, It will cost about the same to replace the engine, as it would to buy another 2012 Forte. I wish they would stand behind their cars, and help me out a little bit. I understand paying for maintenance. Cars have wear and tear, things break, and parts need replacing. However, being exposed to a dangerous stall like this, only to need to spend thousands in replacing the engine, due catastrophic engine failure after one year of ownership and a total milage just outside the waranty window, is pretty devastating. I can't afford a new engine; I just bought this a year ago, and I will probably need to sell the car to a junkyard, since it's too much to pay for a substantial engine rebuild. I have had problems with cars before, everyone has, but this is the first time that a malfunction was potentially dangerous enough to have me seriously injured or killed. The sales team were very friendly and helpful when I initially bought the car. But after learning that this has been a known issue, and being told that It wouldn’t be covered at all, I am very disappointed and overwhelmed. More
