I was involved in a used car sales process with LaFontaine Volvo Cars of Farmington Hills that lasted an unusual four days, from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th. Over the past 16 year LaFontaine Volvo Cars of Farmington Hills that lasted an unusual four days, from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th. Over the past 16 years, my family and I have purchased or leased eight vehicles through LaFontaine, albeit through a different LaFontaine dealership, and we have never experienced delays, roadblocks, or communication issues that prevented us from completing a purchase in a reasonable timeframe. Unfortunately, this experience with LaFontaine Volvo Cars of Farmington Hills was arguably the worst car-buying experience I have ever had. The team at the Farmington Hills location did not live up to the standard I associate with a high-caliber dealership, especially when presented with a ready and serious buyer. I worked through a LaFontaine salesperson whom my family has trusted for 16 years, and who acted as a go-between during the process. In the past, I have typically been able to complete a vehicle purchase within two days. This time, however, there were repeated delays on the dealership’s side in producing a purchase agreement, which directly delayed my ability to complete financing. An additional delay was caused by an error in my name on the purchase agreement, which required correction and further slowed the process. On top of those issues, I was told their communication delays were due to the team working on other signings. I found that explanation especially frustrating, because had I walked into their showroom to purchase the vehicle directly, I would have been one of those signings. Instead, despite being a committed buyer, the process felt unnecessarily slow, disorganized, and poorly prioritized. Given my long and positive history with the LaFontaine family of dealerships, this experience was extremely disappointing. I expected a smooth, professional transaction. What I received was a drawn-out process filled with avoidable delays, poor execution, and excuses that did not match the level of service I have come to expect from LaFontaine. More
