Always get something wrong, from not putting parts back together right or saying you got an oil change and they didn't. Prices are high as well. Most of the staff is friendly and they use factory parts ( together right or saying you got an oil change and they didn't. Prices are high as well. Most of the staff is friendly and they use factory parts (reason for getting 3 stars). Most of the good associates have left for other companies over the past 3 years. High employee turnover rate. The ladies in the scheduling department are good, unfortunately your calls now go to a call center in Florida and they are awful. More
Incompetent - My 2012 Toyota RAV4 was making a whirring noise when driving. The car has just short of 100K miles and we want to take it on some road trips this summer, so I brought it to American Toyota w noise when driving. The car has just short of 100K miles and we want to take it on some road trips this summer, so I brought it to American Toyota with specific instructions to check out the noise and to also let me know what other services would be due at 100,000 miles. They texted me with a list of several "maintenance" items that were due, and I expected to hear further about what was found regarding the noise. I next received a message that the car was ready. When we went to pick it up, we questioned the service writer about what was found regarding the noise. He said that the car was checked out and everything was fine. That they couldn't hear anything unusual. The maintenance items they performed added up to over $1000.00 and included a wheel alignment. We paid, left and immediately heard the noise that we originally asked them to address. To be safe, we then took the car to an independent repair shop that we have had good luck with to ask them if they thought the noise was "normal". The mechanic drove the car around the block, and he could not only hear the noise but told us that you have to be deaf not to hear it. He put it up on the rack and showed us that the left front bearing was not only making the noise, but the wheel itself also actually had some play in it. It is obvious that American Toyota either did not complete the work we had asked them to, or if they did the person that looked into it didn't have a clue what they were doing. The service writer assured that they did check for the noise in question and that all was OK - he obviously was more concerned about quitting time than our safety on the road. As part of the other service completed was an alignment. How a person could perform an alignment and not notice the loose front wheel is beyond me. The other shop completed the bearing work for us, and we paid for another alignment. You typically pay more for maintenance work at a dealership with the hopes that they will have intimate knowledge of the vehicle's workings and take additional pride in servicing the brand they sell. American Toyota's maintenance shop not only completely failed in providing the service that I requested but also managed to talk me into other work that I have little confidence was either needed or done correctly. I am glad I decided to take the vehicle to a maintenance shop that knew what they were doing before we took the car on a road trip. Beware the maintenance work that American Toyota completes for you!
