We went to Liberty Subaru due to the price offered for a used Outback. Kelly's rating of the price was "Great Value". While the car and the price lived up to our expectations, the purchase process did not. used Outback. Kelly's rating of the price was "Great Value". While the car and the price lived up to our expectations, the purchase process did not. The salesman, Ron R., was not very helpful and often left his desk to "check" on things. We sat for almost two hours, first being told that we could not put a deposit down to hold a used car, but that we could if it was new. (We were paying $34,500 for the used car). This changed when I said that if we could not leave a deposit we were going to leave and purchase elsewhere. We went to lunch for an hour and came back to sit in with financing, even though we were purchasing with cash. This took another hour. All said and done we invested four hours with an hour drive each way to boot-a total of 6 hours on our first visit. Upon our return 12 days later (we waited for the money to be withdrawn from our investments), the car was ready, but we were informed that there was only one key even though we were told that there were two on our first visit). As keys cost between $400 and $500 I told them that it was unacceptable and that they would need to "find " the key (the second key we were shown did not work for the vehicle) but that we were not going to make a third trip to pick it up. Long story short- it took another two weeks to get the key in the mail and then take it to a nearby Subaru dealership for programing. Liberty did pay for the key and reimbursed me promptly for the programming. Pros of our purchase: great car (our third Subaru) great price, friendly staff Cons: Glacial pace of purchase (making us feel that our time was not valued), lackadaisical salesman, attempting questionable sales tactics (Saying that they could not hold the car with a deposit because it was used) and not checking thoroughly into the key situation even though they had 12 days to do so. All in all from the first visit to the rectification of issues, it took 32 days to wrap things up. Far too long. I will not return to Liberty, nor will I recommend them to my friends. More

(EDITED 6/28/25). 45 more days have passed, and we STILL do not have a title for the vehicle purchased. That is 268 days since I paid cash for a vehicle at Liberty Subaru and I can not even use the car as I can't get it licensed for road use in my state. To say this is a disappointing is an understatement. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. Liberty Auto Subaru, do what's right and come pick up this vehicle and give me my money back. I have filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's office and I will be referring this over to my attorney. I am pretty disappointed in this dealership as a whole. The buying experience was flawless, fantastic sales and office staff at the beginning. Then it went sideways quickly. I bought a vehicle for my 16yr old, paid cash. The date was October 3, 2024, today is May 13, 2025 and I still don't have the title for it. I was an out of state buyer so here I sit with a vehicle I can't even license in my state, and my temp tags LONG since expired over 5 months ago. I buy a lot of vehicles, many from out of state, and a few from Illinois so I understand there can be delays with the Illinois DMV.. However, I have called the DMV and was given maximum timeline for 8 weeks for title work to be completed, and less than a week for expedited services. Endless call attempts I have had with the title/documents team, spoken to them 3 times, and they simply won't even return a phone call since the first week of March. Did I buy a stolen vehicle?? This is 100% absurd. My kid has been pulled over 5 times for expired temp tags and no license plates, once it had a boot affixed to in his high school parking lot. I didn't want to blast this company publicly, but I feel this is the only leverage point I have at this stage. Be better Liberty Subaru... More
