I recently had a very negative experience with Mac Haik Toyota. After spending $1000 to maintenance my car which was having absolutely no problems, I was left with a severely damaged transmission just a co Toyota. After spending $1000 to maintenance my car which was having absolutely no problems, I was left with a severely damaged transmission just a couple weeks after their technicians serviced it. I spoke to the Director of Service, who was incredibly dismissive and unhelpful - he has absolutely terrible customer service skills and was unwilling to show any concern for my problem which now costs nearly $5,000. Do NOT bring your car here. The technicians don’t know what they’re doing, and the guy in charge is the service department is a joke. More
I had a bad used and new sales experience all in the course of one week. Bought a used Highlander, one year old, low mileage, nice color. When we bought the car, the salesman said if anything wrong, bri course of one week. Bought a used Highlander, one year old, low mileage, nice color. When we bought the car, the salesman said if anything wrong, bring it back in three days, implying a 3 day return policy. He said this more than once: if anything is wrong just bring it back in three days. . . this is not anything I "assumed" (I know people often assume a right of return, but this was not my case). Anyway, I did so, attempting to return the car after it spent a whole day in their shop being diagnosed--so technically, I returned it on the morning of day 4. Rodents had chewed the wiring in the engine compartment. Yes, repairable, but the car fax was also not "clean" and there were other issues no one even asked me about--so I guess it will be the next buyer's problem. Returned the car via the new car side, where I was told that I "misunderstood" their return policy, it was an exchange policy. I had to buy a new car and they would give me the full value for what I had paid. I didn't like what they had on the lot, but the sales person said it was day 3 of their exchange policy, I HAD to buy a new car that day to return the Highlander. She said, because I didn't like their selection, we also can give you 3K off, last day of the month special. I very reluctantly bought the new car, which I didn't like (ugly gray RAV4, black fabric seats, black out plastic instead of chrome), but assumed for this sacrifice I would at least recoup all of the equity back from the first deal: 2K down, 2K trade, and full refund (loan payoff) for the initial purchase, plus now 3K off. However, they treated the returned Highlander as a trade in like I walked in off the street, rolling negative equity from the first loan into the new car loan. It was very underhanded and sneaky. I didn't catch it because I wasn't looking for that, and on car number two, I bought all of the extended warranties and service packages since the finance guy said, you can always cancel them later. When the finance guy said my car payment was just about the same for car #2, a MUCH cheaper vehicle at a lower interest rate, I didn't understand. I sat there dumbfounded looking at the finance guy and he was saying oh well this is a new car, there are dealer fees . . . transportation, other fees to the State you don't have when you buy used. And you bought the warranties. But you can always cancel them! Oh, ok. That must be the reason. But no, the math still didn't work out. It was the negative equity. I wrote to the GM and he said he didn't understand why the deal with the Highlander was done the way it was done, there was a mistake made, but in that meeting he was going to give me the 3K off I had been promised at signing and 800 in sales tax which, incidentally, was owed to me due to a sales tax difference between the two cars. However, I complained that they still rolled negative equity from car A to car B, which should not have happened due to their 3-day "exchange" policy. GM's initial repose was to say no, that didn't happen. But I pinned him down. His response? "We have no way of returning a car," and "We don't have a return or exchange policy. We were just being nice to you!!" Well gee, thanks! I could have taken the Highlander ANYWHERE that day, to CarMax, and traded it in for its wholesale value and gotten a car I actually wanted, like another Highlander. Making things worse, when I reported the deception to two agencies, the GM told them that the issue was resolved, "I had already been paid," referring to the $3800. I think they owe me back the negative equity and the full value of my initial trade in and cash down. By the way, I went back to speak with my sales person twice. About the 3K off she had promised, she said, "Oh, I cannot actually offer you discounts. That isn't up to me. What? Yes, it's up to the Manager." Is he around? No, he isn't here today. What car dealership doesn't have a Sales Manager on a Saturday? More
