Marlboro Nissan responded

Marlboro Nissan wrote on 6/26/2008 12:55:31 PM: Hi John, My name is Timothy Martell, Director of eCommerce at Marlboro Nissan. I am sorry for the experience you had here! Unfortunately the advertiser neglected to put the fine print in the ad on the Mustang you were looking at. I understand we did provide you with the retraction letter they provided us for this error and we no longer use this company for our advertising. While this doesn't change what happened to you we do make every effort to prevent this type of problem from occurring. Again, my sincerest apology for this experience. I did some checking and we did still offer the car to you at $18,995 (the $3,000 down plus the advertised price in the magazine of $15,995) which is the same price we had it on the web for on all our various online advertising sources. Also, when I searched AutoTrader and other online venues I could not find a lower price anywhere for this vehicle with the same equipment and miles. In fact, the lowest price I could find was $2,000 more than the price we advertised and ultimately sold the vehicle for. I want you to know that I make customer experience my top priority and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make this up to you. You can reach me anytime at mraccountable@marlboronissan.com (Reviewer has read this message) Marlboro Nissan wrote on 6/26/2008 1:53:09 PM: John, I was wondering, if it isn't too much trouble, would you be willing to call me so we can discus this together. I would really like to find out your side of what happened. You can reach me anytime on my cell (508) 561-1945. I get horrible reception at home, but I return all my voicemails within 1 hour. Sincerely, Timothy P Martell Director of eCommerce MarlboroNissan.com (Reviewer has read this message) wrote on 6/26/2008 3:42:19 PM: Timothy- I appreciate your time to review my my experience. I understood in the first place that you had a higher advertised price on the websites which is the first thing I noticed and brought up to the sales representative. He responded in an email I have saved saying: "As for the price, it would be for the ad in the newspaper. The lower price!! Just bring in the paper, and we will honor that price for you." I understand you did provide me with the retraction letter, but it really would have saved me an hour and a half long trip out to Marlboro if I had been told they would not honor the lower price to begin with. At the time I remember researching other dealerships and saw a lower advertised price than the 19k that the dealership was asking for, but the 16k advertised price was the lowest I had seen which was why I decided to take the trip in the first place. Off the record, you mentioned that you ended up selling that car for $2000 more than the sticker price or magazine price? I really don't see many ways to make it up to me now, I mean I wasted an afternoon to find out I was lied to. But I do appreciate your concern on my experience, thanks for your letter. (Reviewer has read this message) Marlboro Nissan wrote on 6/27/2008 12:01:33 PM: Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I did some more digging. It turns out we didn't even pay for that ad. The vendor ran a free ad for us to "show us great results". We normally don't advertise in those rags and to be honest with you it has been haunting us ever since. We will absolutely NEVER do business with any of those companies again. You are the 2nd person to be mislead by that ad and, while it was never our intent to mislead anyone, the result is still the same. That one free ad has probably been one of the most costly! Again, my sincerest apology for your experience. I would ask that when you are in need of your next vehicle you give me the opportunity to show you how we really do things, I guarantee you will become a fan! I'm not saying we're perfect, but we try to do what is best for our customer's more often than not. You will find I am a very genuine person and if there is ever anything I can do to help you, I will do everything in my power to make it a reality. Sincerely, Timothy P.
