I took in the car with a check engine light, but it was running fine. After replacing the PCV valve and ECM ($2500), they said I also needed a fuel injector. I drove it off the lot without doing this re running fine. After replacing the PCV valve and ECM ($2500), they said I also needed a fuel injector. I drove it off the lot without doing this repair, and I noticed the car drove substantially worse than when I brought it in. It misfires any time I went over 35mph. I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion, and my local mechanic shared evidence with me that the fuel injector was likely fine before I took it to the dealership, and that the fuel injector was likely damaged when it was removed to replace the PCV. Otherwise the car would have been misfiring before I ever brought it to the dealership. He also showed me that the type of repair the fuel injector needed was one that is often caused by mechanic error. In addition to needing a new fuel injector now--I already paid over $900 in labor for the dealership to diagnose the fuel injector issue. My local mechanic charged me $14 dollars to do the same inspection. The folks in the dealership that I dealt with were very friendly, but now I'm wondering if it's a facade to lull customers into being willingly ripped off. More
