My experience with McGrath Ford in Cedar Rapids, IA. Was extremely pleasant. They were very professional and got my vehicle ready for me in a fast but efficient manner! My Ford Escape went in on a recall part and ended up needing a full engine rebuild. Ford paid for the whole thing and the service department never lost focus on the amount of time to get me my car back. I recommend this service department anytime! More

Some key takeaways from my experience: -Scheduled an appointment to see a vehicle but it was actually located on another lot in town. This just added some inconvenience as we had to drive in a vehicle with the sales rep across town and try to locate the vehicle once we arrived. -Scheduled an appointment to complete the purchase of the vehicle but they did not have the title on hand once I arrived and weren't sure when they would. We completed the paperwork and I received a loaner vehicle to drive while we waited for the title to arrive. The low tire pressure light was on as soon as I got in. Eventually the loaner situation was rectified but we did not get our vehicle for more than 5 weeks after they accepted my payment due to not having the title. -The least appealing portion of my experience was the actual purchase process. Despite repeatedly making it known what I would pay and that I planned to pay cash on the spot, the up-sell speeches went into full affect as soon as I left the show-room floor. At one point it was suggested that I could take out a loan in order to accommodate the $8,000+ service plan package they wanted me to buy for a $14,500 vehicle with the reasoning I could probably make more money in interest investing the purchase money elsewhere than I would be paying in interest on the loan. This is dangerous advice at best and a poor business practice when other customers may be less-informed and overwhelmed during the process. No financial adviser would ever suggest financing nearly $23,000 so you could invest $14,500 in hopes of a return. Any decent insurance covers the items used as selling points (rentals, windshields, etc.) and I find it hard to believe I could ever pay my $250 deductible up to 32 times just to break even on the cost of the plan (pre-financing charges, of course). -After weeks of waiting, the vehicle had a mysterious and sizable scratch on it when we came to pick it up. We waited another 2 days but they did fix the paint in a timely manner. -All employees were at least polite throughout the process save one. The title section representative was blatantly rude and unhelpful. Garrett Ellard was very helpful and a saving grace, keeping me informed throughout the process and helping wherever he could. Overall, I would only shop here again for an unbeatable deal financially. All of the stereotypes of the car buying process were alive and well during my buying experience More
