Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte responded

Upon the arrival of the vehicle at Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte the customer stated that the vehicle had been sitting unused for over a year. The vehicle would not start, crank or run at all. After addressing multiple issues with the vehicle, including a starter motor, fuel pumps and glow plugs the vehicle would now start and run. Once the vehicle was in operating condition cylinder 5 fuel injector was found to be faulty and replaced. The customer was advised that the four remaining injectors could possibly fail in the future but were all functioning properly at this time. After all repairs were completed vehicle was test driven 80+ miles and was inspected before return to the customer. When vehicle left dealership it started properly, ran smoothly and had no oil leaks present. Upon vehicles return to dealership, customer stated that vehicle would not start and that he had used approximately six cans of ether based starting fluid to start the vehicle until the point that it would no longer start or run. Customer also admitted that the vehicle ran smoothly for awhile before developing any sort of rough idle or oil leaks. The ether based starting fluid that was found in the vehicle and this product has a warning label on the can that states, 'do not use in diesel engines with glow plugs or internal engine damage will occur.’ At this time the vehicle has low compression in cylinders 4 and 5 as well as a blown head gasket. This damage is a direct result of using highly combustible starting fluid in the engine. At this time due to internal damage in engine, complete replacement of engine with remanufactured unit is recommended at this time.
