We were over a barrel as we were out of state and on vacation with our motorhome. We needed to get the repair done ASAP so we could continue with our vacation. The repair was completed in one day, for which we are grateful. The bill, however, of over $2500, astounded us. This seemed really excessive for replacement of a failed oil pressure switch. We had to take it on faith that the related work (removal of the intake, replacement of the oil filter adapter, gaskets) was necessary and fairly priced. My gut feeling was that the repair might come to $400 - $500 or even $700 - $800, so we were stunned by the bill of over $2500. Considering our position I did not feel that we were in a position to argue or quibble. The prospect of paying an additional $75 (3%) to use a credit card did not sit well either, so I paid with a check. This is why I would never recommend anyone go to a dealership unless money is no object or the situation does not make it practical to seek out an independent shop. That’s the position we were in.
