He put my call on hold, so that he could check whether the agency had the silver Rav-4 I wanted at the price I'd seen advertised in the newspaper. Yes, he promised, there was one on the lot. I was on hold again while he did the math on an “out the door” price including tax, license and other fees. We agreed I’d pay a total of $22,185.30 for my new silver Rav-4. I told him I'd be right out to buy it. I emptied my old car, in case the Toyota dealership wanted it as a trade-in, and drove out to Mission Gorge Road on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to get my new car. Since we only have one day off together, my husband went with me. We asked for Kong. He wasn't available; others offered to help. Nguyen actually materialized for about one minute -- then disappeared. My husband and were jerked around for about two hours – before it finally became clear to us that Nguyen had lied. The dealership didn’t have the silver Rav-4 at the price Nguyen had offered. He outright lied. If this sounds like no big deal -- then it means you accept that it's ok for car dealerships to outright lie to customers and steal their most valuable commodity: time. More
