This was my first new car buying experience since 2011. In that time, car magazines have reached a broader audience, video car review "YouTube personalities" have popped up all over the website, and car shopping sites like Autotrader, Cars.com, and CarGurus have exploded in popularity. Edmunds, KBB, NADA, and others have also made it easier to estimate the fair purchase price of a vehicle. It's all been a tremendous boon for the buyer who can price shop across local and regional dealerships and approach a sale with much more information at their disposal. Many dealerships have resisted this change and employ a number of tactics to confuse, conceal information from, or outright deceive the buyer. Tactics such as placing adds for vehicles not in their inventory, refusing to honor online pricing once in store, non-standard fees, gimmick perks, and predatory lending have all left a stain on the reputation of dealerships. It's part of the reason why Tesla, with its direct to customer sales, and guaranteed "no-haggle" dealerships like CarMax and Vroom have found recent success. I am happy to say that Pete Moore does not appear to engage in any of these practices. This is a dealership that understands the modern car shopper and deals with them honestly. When shopping for a GTI, I first reached out to Pete Moore by email to inquire about a specific vehicle they listed as being in stock. A reply came within minutes, not with a generic automated response or a plea to come into the store for more details, but with a genuine introduction and request for more information on a car I was looking to trade in. I was transferred over to a member of the sales team - Mark Torelli - who was friendly and very communicative. In that first day, we exchanged about 4 emails and not once did he pressure me to come into the store to discuss further. Over the course of the next few days, Mark and I communicated exclusively by email and text. Through this medium, I provided him with information and pictures of my vehicles, and he returned with financing information and hard quotes and a disclosure of fees and related costs. Of course we negotiated on the price and value of the different cars, but we did it entirely by text. When I mentioned I was cross shopping the vehicle against a couple other dealerships, he didn't bristle, get insulted, or chastise me that I was undermining the negotiation (I mention that because it's something other sales reps from unnamed dealerships have done). Once again, he never suggested that I needed to come into the dealership to continue negotiations. After settling on a price for the trade-ins and the new car, we made an appointment to finalize the sale. Before meeting him on the day of the sale, I had never spoken to Mark on the phone or knew what he looked or sounded like. Once there, he was just as courteous and professional as he had been "online." The final price we had agreed to was the final price of the sale. There were no surprise fees or taxes, and Mark did not try to sell me anything else that day. My experience doesn't quite end there though. Over the first 2 days of owning the vehicle, a couple service items became apparent that aren't always obvious during a test drive and initial inspection. I brought these up to Mark who encouraged me to bring in the vehicle the following day. When I did, Mark met me at the service station and introduced me to Cody Lonon, who worked with me over the next couple of days to address my concerns. Because the service would require ordering a part that was not immediately in stock, I was given a courtesy vehicle to use. Thirty hours later, I had my car back with all my concerns addressed. During this time, Cody was just as professional and communicative as Mark and I greatly appreciated his assistance as well. BLUF: Mark was the consummate professional, respectful of my time and completely honest and fair in his dealings with me. If you're looking for a new VW anywhere between here, Mobile, Panama City, and ATL, I can unequivocally recommend focusing your efforts on Pete Moore. More
