"Told us they would hold the car and sold it without calling!"

Below is a letter I sent to the dealer describing our bad experience. I wanted to thank you and Steven Berg for all of your help on Wednesday. We do appreciate you putting the Accord on a courtesy hold until my son and his fiancé could talk to their bank. I didn't realize BOA wouldn't loan on a vehicle that had over 125K and they refused to make an exception even though the Honda was only over by 925 miles. I called Steven around 6:30 PM on Wednesday to let him know we still wanted to purchase the car using Prescott Honda's lenders. I did ask him to find out if we could get the price down a little more since it went from $8900 to $10,300 with tax and doc fees. He said he had left work for the day but he would get back to us the following morning. He never called. My son called Steven when he got home from work on Thursday and was told the car may have been sold. A little while later Steven called back and stated the car had been sold. I'm not sure why Steven didn't call us back Thursday morning as promised. This was my son's first Dealer experience and it certainly wasn't a pleasant first time experience. My son and his fiancé really wanted a Toyota Camry so he asked me to go to Findlay to look at their used car selection. We didn't find anything decent on their used car lot so I told him we should stop by Prescott Honda while we were in the area. I'm not a huge fan of new/used car dealerships in the Prescott area but I have always considered Prescott Honda the best dealer in the area. I always check out your inventory and prices first but usually end up going to Phoenix dealers or private party sellers to buy my personal vehicles. I am loyal to my money and will only shop local when it makes good financial sense. My daughter purchased her first used car from Prescott Honda several years ago and other than the credit check fiasco it was a pleasant car buying experience. My daughter paid in full with a cashier’s check from AZ State Credit Union and Prescott Honda still insisted on running a credit check claiming it was federal law which we later found out it's not. If we had walked in with a bag of cash I could understand the need to run some checks but she borrowed the money from the credit union so obviously she wasn't laundering money. The article below backs up my reasons for disputing the need for a credit check when obtaining a loan elsewhere. The Anti-Terrorism Law Doesn't Require a Credit Check. I guess most car buyers don't educate themselves on the law and believe whatever dealers tell them. I had this discussion with Mr. Berg the other day and he finally admitted that it wasn't required for transactions less than 10K but Prescott Honda's policy required a credit check for every purchase. "This is a ruse and designed to get access to the customer's credit report in order to qualify a customer to various finance sources the dealer uses." Per the article/link below. Car Dealership Credit Report Scams and the Patriot Act. I will not bother visiting Prescott Honda in the future...I have learned my lesson. I will certainly share my experience with anyone I know that's looking for a new/used car or a service center. I wouldn't even recommend your service department since the mechanic that performed our airbag recall left black grease on the door panels and kick panels of our Honda Civic. I did complain to the service department and they failed followed up with me. I left a negative review after that incident and I will be leaving another one for the sales department.

"Made getting my recall performed very easy. "

Mr. Jones (my Service Writer) was awesome to work with and very accommodating. I had to change my appointment time several times and Mr. Jones was very understanding and willing to work with us. We had the air bag recall performed on our 2005 Honda Civic and even though we dropped the car off the day before our scheduled appointment; it was still completed in less than 2 hours. The only complaint I have about the service performed at Prescott Honda is the technician that performed the work on our car neglected to clean his hands or rubber gloves. There were greasy fingerprints on both front doors, steering wheel, and dash. There was grease from the technician's shoes/boots on the kick panel and door sill plate too. I had to clean the vehicle when we got home! I explained to Mr. Jones that I am very picky when it comes to my cars, I have been an automotive technician for almost 30 years and I know you can perform repairs on a vehicle without soiling the interior or exterior. That's why I stay away from local dealerships and independent shops, many of the techs don't seem to take pride in their work. I had a similar experience at the local Ford Dealer when I took my F-250 in for warranty work. I give the Service Writer's and A+++ but the technician and Service Manager get a D due to the condition of my car when I picked it up. Someone needs to be doing quality control to make sure customer's vehicles are just as clean (or cleaner) as they were when dropped off. Regards, Mark W.

We do not like buying cars! In the past while buying cars we felt allot of pressure and the experience was not good. Needless to say car buying is not something we look forward too! Our sales person was Steve Berg. We were very relaxed with Steve. He made a very good impression on both of us from the start. We came in "just looking". We had several cars in mind to buy. We told Steve this upfront. He did not try to pressure us into making any quick decisions. He explained the features of the car we were looking at very well. We came in one day "unannounced" when Steve was not there and test drove two vehicles. Since Steve was not there Curtis did the test drives with us. We hated to take him away from the dealership knowing he could lose a potential customer walking in but he said no problem and did the test drives with us. Great customer service! We made the decision to buy a 2018 Honda Accord. We made an appointment with Steve just telling him we had more questions. Once again, Steve answered all of our questions very well. He was very proffessional and knowledgeable about everything we asked. Once the decision was made we were very impresssed that we could get the vehicle the very next day. When we picked up the car Steve walked us through all the features of the vehicle. Allot of items to digest but Steve did a great job explaining things. The bottom line is that we liked Steve and he impressed us from the start. from the start. Everyone at the dealership we spoke to or met were very helpfull.
