CR-V timing chain and cam shaft maintenance First, I will say that I will not rate the quality of the work because the longevity will determine that. So far, though, I haven't had any issues. I thought that Blake did a good job of keeping me informed of the progress of the diagnosis/maintenance on the first day, 6/2. He seemed to understand my need to get my car back ASAP and even offered a 10% discount on the cost of the maintenance, which was going to be close to $2500. The second day, 6/3, the communication was not that smooth. Not sure what happened there, but I know when I called, Blake was not there and I had the distinct impression that there was not a clear cut service manager that I was to deal with. I didn't hear anything from anyone on the 2nd day until the afternoon and I had to make the first contact. There certainly wasn't any urgency to get my car back to me any sooner than the end of the day. Also, I found out the evening after picking up my car that the 10% discount offered by Blake did not include the cost of the cam shaft, which cost around $750. When I called to ask about that early the following week he offered a reason, which I don't recall exactly, but it had something to do with no labor on that part. Whatever it was, it seemed pretty weak. When I picked up my vehicle, I was told that the issues that warranted the cam shaft replacement was going too long in between oil changes. When I bought the car at Randy Kuehl, there wasn't any mention of needing to change the oil more frequently than the recommended 10,000 miles, which I did diligently, and exclusively at Randy Kuehl for the first 120,000 miles. It has only been in the last 60,000 - 70,000 miles that I have been getting the oil changed before 5,000 miles. If there are long term issues with following the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule, they should either change the guidance or inform the customer of different recommendations at the time of purchase. Overall, I thought that Blake was very good to deal with and was willing to take the time to talk with me and go over all the problems in detail. I only dealt with John a short time when I picked up my vehicle but he was able to answer all the remaining questions that I asked. I would still use the service department in the future for major issues. More
