Won't look there again Let’s start with the good. (Most) everything pre-transaction was smooth. Communication was easy, price on the car was good, etc. They pulled a car in Let’s start with the good. Communication was easy, price on the car was good, etc. They pulled a car in the color and trim I wanted in from a dealer a couple hours away, which I appreciated. They even paid for me to fly out from Missouri to Indy to pick up the car. The salesman (who’s no longer working there) picked me up at the airport and drove me to the lot. Signing the paperwork was quick and easy since everything had already been negotiated. No complaints. That’s where it ends though. There was one issue with the paperwork before I went out there. They sent it all to me to sign before I left, but the pricing was wrong (higher, of course) and the VIN number on half the forms was for a different car. So that wasn’t good, though they got everything right by the time I got out there. Once everything was done and I was about to drive off the lot with the car (a new 2017 Mazda 3), I noticed an indicator light on the dash was illuminated. Turned out it was for a headlight that was out. I got the GT trim with LED headlights, so it wasn’t a matter of just replacing a bulb. The guys were more than willing to try and swap out the whole headlight unit with another while I was there, but it would’ve required dropping the front bumper and the service dept. was all gone by then. Wouldn’t have mattered anyway, as it was a faulty body control module. So I had to make the 6-hour drive back home with only one working headlight. I’m just glad I didn’t get pulled over. I also was without a car for 3 days while it got fixed. I also realized a couple weeks later that the tires were all over-inflated (45-47 PSI) for some reason. So, it’s pretty clear the people at Skillman did not look over the car AT ALL before I got there to pick it up, even though they had it on the lot for several days before I got out there. I even found a blank delivery checklist in the glove compartment, which clearly should’ve been filled out by somebody at the dealership. Also, the salesman threw in two free oil changes with the deal. I signed a paper stating this. He assured me that even though I live out of state they would just work with my local dealer when I brought it in for an oil change and they’d get it comped. However, I called to get this set up recently and everyone at Skillman acted like that was some big impossible task. They said they’d check into it and call me back, but I never got a call. Next time I’m in the market I can’t imagine I’ll look to Skillman again. More
