Eager to find ways to make me happy I'm a very difficult buyer for most car dealers. I work in sales and so I have very little patience for the usual dealership tactics. I do my resear I'm a very difficult buyer for most car dealers. I work in sales and so I have very little patience for the usual dealership tactics. I do my research, set very firm limits for pricing and options and usually watch the market for four to six months before making a purchase so that, when a good deal pops up, I know what it looks like. The car: I found Richmond BMW via a number of channels. They had posted a few cars on AutoTrader, Cars.com and the USAA.com search tool. I inquired about a car that was pretty close to what I was looking for (the USAA tool flagged it as an excellent value), Anton reached out to me, but ultimately I decided against a purchase. He was completely respectful, didn't try to change my mind or oversell the car that was on their lot. Instead, he just asked for more information on what I was looking for. I was very specific about options and price. Honestly, I was a bit of a "tool". Within a few days, Anton sent me a note indicating that he found a car that fit my profile and asked if I'd be interested in driving it. It was at another dealership, and so they asked for me to pay the shipping costs, to which I replied "xxxx no", but that if the car was what they said it was, I was serious about buying it. They paid the shipping costs and I drove an hour to Richmond to take a look. The car was better than what I asked for, and extremely fairly priced. Trade in: I was not planning to trade in my car, but I also did some research in case they gave me a fair offer. I was impressed that the manager asked me to ride with him as he assessed my Z3, and he was very up front about how he was evaluating my car. He didn't do the usual tactic of trying to tell me that my car was a disaster waiting to happen and he didn't try to "low ball" me on the price. He offered me about half way between the auction value and the retail sale price of my car (according to Edmunds.com and cars.com). I decided to accept his offer, saving myself the trouble of prepping the car for sale, advertising it, and trying to sell it myself. Financing: I arrived at the dealership with funding in hand from USAA. USAA offered me a very good rate that I was satisfied to proceed with, but Heather (financing) offered to run the numbers in case they were able to find a better rate. She was able to beat USAA by half a point. Unbelievable! Dealer: Anton was extremely respectful, informed and honest at all stages of the sale. I made him work for the sale, and he worked harder than any dealer I have ever met. I arrived with a major attitude, fully expecting to be over sold, and his response was to "kill me with kindness". After the sale, I had a few questions and inadvertently called his cell phone on his day off - he took the call without a word of complaint (only later did I realize what I had done and offered my apology). Without question, this was the best car buying experience that I have ever had (including other BMW dealerships). More
Unsatisfied Longtime Customer My experience was very eventful. You'll have a great initial experience here, but don't expect to be treated with the utmost respect when you express My experience was very eventful. You'll have a great initial experience here, but don't expect to be treated with the utmost respect when you express your concerns about anything after the initial sales transaction. The general manager will attempt to resolve the issues, but not because they actually care about the bad experience you had at the dealership. He's mostly motivated by the image being portrayed to the public on social media rather than the poor experience itself. Constantly reminding you how he's bending over backwards to assist you as if they offer free products and services. There was an issue with a purchase. I was contacted after listing my complaints on social media only to end up with only one of the three issues resolved, and another unfavorable experience when I returned the showroom. I was under the impression that I was being assisted by the GM because he actually cared about the poor initial customer experience, but it was actually because he wanted me to remove the factual comments made on social media. I actually walked around the dealership almost begging for assistance from the staff who were there. It was as if they all was steering clear of me because they didn't want to interact with me. I finally walked up to the used car sales manager to see if he could point me in the right direction. He barely responded to me and acted as if he had no idea why I was there. I realized that most had taken my online comments personal rather than seeing where they went wrong and sincerely working to resolve the issue. His actions made me rethink moving forward with the transaction to get me out of one bad vehicle into another that was a better fit for me. Mostly due to feeling like the offer wasn't coming from the right place in addition to how everything about the deal kept changing as each day passed. I've decided to take my business elsewhere and just take a financial loss on this one rather than having another poor experience similar to when I attempted to speak with the general manager about this. He's a fast talker who doesn't appear to actually listen to your concerns. Do yourself a favor and spend your money at a dealership that will show you respect before and after the sales transaction like I did. I ended up purchasing the same model with lower miles at one of my local BMW dealerships. My down payment and interest rate was lower, in addition to receiving $250 off my first two car payments. Over-the-Top Customer Service Too often we hear stories of car dealers who cut corners and fail to stand behind their commitments. Nothing could be further from the truth at Crown Too often we hear stories of car dealers who cut corners and fail to stand behind their commitments. Nothing could be further from the truth at Crown BMW/MINI. After purchasing a vehicle from Steve Lerner at Crown (who was extremely professional, pleasant and knowledgeable), my wife and I encountered a problem with the vehicle. Within hours, Steve and Matt Perry from Crown were orchestrating an amazing response and corrective plan of action that was, by all measures incredibly impressive. The manner in which Steve and Matt addressed our issues demonstrate that Crown is an exemplary dealership which I can enthusiastically recommend. More
