Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few important points and ensure we are all working with the same information. First, while BMW ownership does not require servicing exclusively at a BMW Center, it is strongly recommended to maintain consistent documentation and ensure proper diagnosis and care. In our conversation with Mr. Rogers, it was shared that the vehicle had been serviced at a quick-lube facility, later inspected by a mobile mechanic following the engine failure, and diagnosed by an independent shop prior to arriving at our BMW Center. With no BMW service history for over 20,000 miles, it becomes difficult to attribute the cause of the engine failure to any action—or inaction—by Rick Hendrick BMW. It is also important to highlight the steps we took to assist you through this process. Despite the vehicle’s current valuation of approximately $600, we offered an alternative vehicle with more than $9,000 in accommodations to help offset the difference in your loan payoff. Additionally, when reviewing the engine replacement option, we secured nearly $5,000 in savings from the original quote and provided the option to finance a portion of the repair to make the situation more manageable for your family. You mentioned wanting to caution others about purchasing from our dealership, which we understand comes from frustration with this unexpected circumstance. When you purchased your vehicle, we included a complimentary 3-month/3,000-mile powertrain warranty and also presented extended service contract options for longer-term protection—options that many of our clients elect to take advantage of, though you chose not to purchase them at that time. With the vehicle at 71,000 miles at the time of purchase, there was simply no way to foresee an engine failure occurring 13 months and 20,000 miles later. We are truly sorry that you are experiencing this situation. Engine failures are stressful and unfortunate regardless of the circumstances. Please know that our intention has always been to support you, and we remain available to help you explore any remaining options.

This is all gaslighting and a calculated response to a real and terrifying experience for a family that purchased a vehicle from Rick Hendrick BMW. This also confirms that a BMW X3 SUV that has a faulty engine is worth $600 a year after purchase. Absolutely horrific that their value of their own vehicle is $600. Also, we were given a very high quote in comparison to another from Rick Hendrick BMW to repair the engine. It was $17k to $20k to repair per their documented estimate. I hope that no other family has to be in this situation with their vehicle a year from purchase. It has been a nightmare and we will never purchase another BMW.
