I was very frustrated and disappointed with Rydell’s service process. While I had a positive experience with the sales department, that did not carry over to the service division. First, I waited t service process. While I had a positive experience with the sales department, that did not carry over to the service division. First, I waited two weeks for a scheduled appointment. That’s a long time to wait for an issue that may render a vehicle dangerous or underivable. My issue was in the suspension and, while I didn’t expect that to be the case, neither could I rule it out. The scheduler attributed the delay to Rydell’s popularity in taking on customers from other dealerships. I find that difficult to believe. After arriving promptly at 8 AM on Tuesday, the service rep openly scoffed at the idea that my car would be evaluated that day stating, “the appointment is only for drop-off.” Really? You have ALL DAY and can’t complete a 20 minute evaluation for a problem that’s so obvious I can pinpoint it’s location from the driver’s seat? Then what did I wait two weeks for? He speculated they’d have an answer by “by Thursday but possibly Friday.” Having just had surgery, I had no driving planned, and told the rep that I could wait until Friday if necessary; but also that I had important medical followups the next week. By Friday AFTERNOON, I still hadn’t received an update, so I messaged the service rep and reiterated that I needed to be back in my vehicle by Tuesday — that is, a full week after I dropped it off. He responded that they would “do our best!”, which is exactly what he had said the previous week. On Tuesday MORNING, I was told by the rep that I should “have an update later.” By Tuesday EVENING, still waiting, I informed the rep that I would be picking my vehicle up on Wednesday, regardless of whether it had been evaluated or not, so to please be prepared for that. (I received no response.) Finally, LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, I received a message from Rydell saying that they had identified the problem, parts had been ordered, and that my car could be picked up at any time. When I arrived, the service rep with whom I had been communicating barely acknowledged my existence, did not apologize for repeatedly missing understood deadlines, nor explain to me what was wrong with my car. He simply waived me over to the cashier’s desk, where all of the employees were (predictably) engrossed in their phones. When I asked them what the results of the evaluation were, they simply said to check my paperwork. Never, ever, ever have I picked up a vehicle from service and NOT had someone personally delineate the work. Even the shadiest mechanic has the decency to make stuff up. The service rep did awkwardly run out to the driveway while I was waiting for receipt of my car and shout “goodbye!”, likely in anticipation of this review. But it was hardly sincere, as he sure as heck wasn’t interested in me any point during the time they were holding my car hostage. All in all, my vehicle sat on Rydell’s lot for OVER A WEEK while they did absolutely nothing with it. I could have simply kept the car and driven it during that time, and NOT missed any medical appointments. That’s not simply “being busy”. That’s bad management — exceptionally bad management. Combined with the performance of the office staff, this was, in totality, the worst automotive service I have ever received anywhere, dealership or otherwise, including from those that didn’t actually fix anything. Look, you can be rude and dismissive and still provide excellent service. Or you can be pleasant and attentive and provide bad service, and either way keep customers. But you can’t be rude, dismissive AND provide bad service. Rydell was all of that, so I do not plan enjoining them for service or sales again in the future. More
