Problem With Service Department I would like to apologize in advance to anyone reading this review. This is going to be a little long, but the issue has been going on for four weeks I would like to apologize in advance to anyone reading this review. This is going to be a little long, but the issue has been going on for four weeks! We purchased a 2007 Honda Civic with under 100,000 miles a few years ago for our son. He is a full time college student, and needed something reliable to get back and forth to school. A few weeks ago the car broke down as my son was driving it home from work. He was exactly 5 minutes away from our house when this occurred. I was able to immediately get in my car and drive to where he was. There was no smoke and the temp gage never went past the mid point. After finding out that this year model car had a defective motor I contacted the local Honda dealership Sons Honda. I was told that the warranty for the defective motor had been extended to 10 years, but another person had recently come in with the same year model and Honda loyalty covered everything except $1500. He stated we would have to have the care towed there before he could check on it. So the car was towed there on 3/12/18 sometime after 6:00 p.m. I was called fairly early on 3/13/18 and was told that no Honda would not cover any of the expenses to fix it. I thought this was a awfully fast to have a decision, but assumed he was telling me the truth. I did however ask for the number he called because I wanted to talk to them myself. At this point I was given the number to Honda loyalty. I was told by THREE people there that the person at Sons Honda NEVER called! They however did start a claim and asked Sons Honda for a full diagnostic and a price of what it would be to fix the car. I was called a few days later and told my out of pocket would be $2000. I reluctantly agreed and expected the car to be fixed. I was then called back and told that wouldn’t include tax. Once again I reluctantly agreed. The next day I was called by Sons Honda and told that the $2000 was only for the cracked head, and there would be a lot more changes. I was then asked if I would like for them to continue with the work. At that point a visit was paid to the dealership and after much discussion a top dollar price of $3300 was agreed on. That was supposed to be higher that they thought it would be, but just wanted to be sure there was room for error. On 4/13/18 I called Sons Honda to find out what was taking so long for the car to be repaired. I was finally called back and was told the check engine light wouldn’t go off, it needs an 02 sensor. I was told this was going to cost another $250 on top of what we already owed. I asked the person to look in the computer to see what we owed and he said without the 02 sensor the total was over $3400. This entire process has been a nightmare. Some people might say we are lucky to have Honda paying anything on an 11 year old car. I say to that if the car didn’t have a defective motor it wouldn’t be in the shop to begin with! If you put out a defective product there shouldn’t be a time limit on when you will correct the issue. Yes, there is more than just the defective motor that needs to be repaired because it overheated, but there wouldn’t be if the car didn’t have a defective motor. We took excellent care of the car once we bought it. It had a 100,000 mile service done when it hit 100,000 miles. The timing belt was replaced, and the car had regular oil changes. So to sum things up: 1. We were lied to about the dealership calling Honda loyalty. 2. We agreed on a price of $2000 total and the dealership has constantly said they won’t honor the $2000. At this point they have almost doubled this price. 3. They have had the car for a month and it still isn’t finished. I was told they have to work on other cars too. Well, shouldn’t you finish one car before you start another one? 4. None of this would have happened if Honda had not installed a defective motor in the car. We shouldn’t have to pay anything to get the car fixed, but at the very least we shouldn’t be paying more than the $2000 TOTAL that was agreed on! My son picked out the Honda Civic, and could have possibly been a life long Honda customer. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening after this terrible experience. Especially since it is now 4/15/18 and we still don’t have the car! More
