Went to them for a used car against the warning of a friend that said they were crooks, thinking, "how bad could it be?" The used car office itself is not very attractive in appearance, giving it an unp friend that said they were crooks, thinking, "how bad could it be?" The used car office itself is not very attractive in appearance, giving it an unprofessional and "sketchy" feel right off the bat. A salesperson, Erick, showed us the car that we were interested in and took it for a test drive. He seemed to very new, and since the car itself was not a Toyota/Scion, he was not very knowledgeable about the car, save for some generic facts about the make. The car was in below average cosmetic condition, with many scratches and small dents on the body and wheels as wheel, so we expected the price to reflect that. Unfortunately, it did not. After about an 1-2 hours of finagling, we couldn't agree on a financed price that would achieve our desired monthly payments and decided to leave. It was then that the manager, Ray, gave us a final offer, saying, "If we sell you the car at such and such price and $2000 down so that it meets $XXX/month for 72 months, will you take the car today?" We said yes and they proceeded to write it up, submit our info for credit approval, and so forth. We arranged for final paperwork to be signed and the car to be picked up the next day, and we left. We call them the next day to ask if the car is ready, they said yes, so we drove over. We arrive and we wait for about 20 minutes. We ask how much longer it will take, understanding that since we were registering the vehicle out of state that it may take longer than usual, and they said probably another hour. Why did they tell us it was ready when it clearly wasn't? Who knows. We were also told that the car would be completely detailed and cleaned for us when we come to pick it up, and it clearly was not touched at all until the moment we got there, where a young teenaged kid that probably knows nothing of car detailing began "cleaning" it to give us the impression that it had been underway before we came. Not wanting to wait around any longer, we leave and tell them that we will come back on the weekend in the morning, 2 days later. Ray calls us up later, apologizing and says he will give us a GPS for our inconvenience. We come back in 2 days, ready to finish things up. We take a look at the car again, it is still dirty, undetailed, clearly just put back in its spot after we left the other day, whatever. We proceed to sign a bunch paperwork. Finally, we get to the only form that matters, saved for last of course, with the agreement for the payments. Magically, the monthly payment has increased by $100 more than what we agreed on the other day, and for only 60 months instead of 72. Ray acts confused/surprised, goes to check out why this is, and comes back saying that it is much better this way because the rate is much lower and we will be much better off. We tell him we can't afford this, so we cannot make the deal. Of course, he tries to convince to still buy it, asking if we can put more money down, etc, etc, trying to convince us that we can afford it in our budget, etc, etc. We cut ties and left. Clearly, we have our reasons for wanting a specific monthly payment, and if you as the dealer are trying to HAGGLE THE CUSTOMER'S BUDGET, you must be doing something wrong. It is apparent now that when Ray made the final offer to us on the first day, he had not run our credit yet and received the approval for the 72 month financing, so he was clearly just telling us what we wanted to hear to make the sale and keep from losing a sale, with the intent of trying to goad/force us into making a deal that we don't want later on. Long story short, stay away. These people really are crooks. More
I bought a used 2008 Rav4 from Star and I am very satisfied with the dealership and especially John Bosco. The dealership has a friendly low pressure environment that allows the buyer to test, think and evaluate the deal before he/she can make the purchase. John Bosco really cared about what you wanted and showed you the right cars. He was also an honest, no pressure guy who really cared what you wanted. All questions were answered honestly and they gave us a Toyota certified car that runs amazing well. John also got an excellent deal on the vehicle.I think this is one of the best car buying experiences I have had. 5 stars to John Bosco and Star Toyota!! More
We have negotiated price through e-mails, and reached the agreement. When I got there, the car had been already sold. It could be happen, but it is apparently sold during our negotiation. So she knew the agreement. When I got there, the car had been already sold. It could be happen, but it is apparently sold during our negotiation. So she knew the car I wanted had gone and gave me fake attractive price to trap in. Then, when I went to dealer even she didn't come to me, no apologize, and just sent another colleague to try to sell a different car. The dealer is not clean at all. I traveled around the world, but if you take account the amount of money you will commit, this place gave me so far the worst shopping experience in my life. More

I am happy with the sales team and the finance team. They presented themselves professionally. I thought it was time to buy a new one, I spoke to Ron Cordero who demonstrated all the new features and improvements,we drove the car and we were very impressed, no pressure to buy, very welcoming great sales person. We liked this dealership so much, we purchased another Sienna XLE. on Tues. When we came back to work out financal details, Tom Dun invited us into his office, he spent hours with us, giving us the greated rate. Tom I would rate the highest, He knows his cars inside and out,and all the added features, he was in the consumer's corner,we told him what we wanted and gave us the best bang for your buck, not trying to sell us up, but giving us the insurence and protection at very low prices. He is the guy you want to talk to when you buy a new car. He made us feel like family. Rich Proomzo was the General Manager,he asked us if we needed anything else and was overseeing everything, and we could see why Star toyota is a #1 Toyota Dealer. I seached for price and the best deals. I found it at Stay Toyota in Bayside More
My parents visited this dealership on Thursday, July 21, 2011, because I checked it out online and spoke with Sean Hoque and it appeared that they had a large selection of used cars at good prices. They bo 2011, because I checked it out online and spoke with Sean Hoque and it appeared that they had a large selection of used cars at good prices. They bought a 2009 Camry, and ended up being charged $1295 as a "bank fee" for their loan of $19,981.18. On Saturday, July 23, I spoke with Ray Berrios, who had put together their deal, to ask a number of questions; he did not answer all my questions because he hung up on me before I finished speaking with him. Later that day, Scott from Star Toyota called and said that he wanted to make everything right and would take off the bank fee. On Monday, my father went into Star Toyota and Scott took off the charge, as promised. I and my parents appreciated his cooperation in this matter, and that is why I have given Star Toyota an overall rating of 3. However, I want to warn other customers to be careful about the bank fee if you go here; my parents have good credit and it was unclear why they were being charged a fee of $1295 (entirely separate from the interest they would have to pay) to get a loan of only about $20,000. I was able to get the best price from among a dozen+ dealers in the tri-state area, immediately from Scott without haggling. He went over every detail and cost of the lease numbers accurately with me o dealers in the tri-state area, immediately from Scott without haggling. He went over every detail and cost of the lease numbers accurately with me over the phone. There were no games, and I literally was driving out the same day after about 30min on the phone, a few emails and less than an hour at the dealership. As many people can attest, there is more than just getting a price agreement via email or phone. Its being able to get your car and drive out without hours and hours at the dealership, pressure to upsell, or price changes when you show up. Their F+I guy was super friendly and didn't try to get me to buy tire protection or any other usual F+I add-on's. If you know the car you want, and you want the best price- give them a call. If you want cappuccino's and leather couches- perhaps you can try another dealership or just go to Starbucks after you go here. More
Beware of the service department. They will not help you. I was told I need service package D because I had over 27K miles. Their package D is for vehicles with 30K miles and costs $535.90. After 10 minutes I was told I need service package D because I had over 27K miles. Their package D is for vehicles with 30K miles and costs $535.90. After 10 minutes in waiting room, I realized I had only 24K! I should have been given package B. Package B is for 25K miles and costs $192.90. I went back and told service tech. John A. He said he would take care of it and make the correction. I thought correction was to give me package B. This would have saved me $343. Finally got car back 1 1/2 hour after promised time. Went to pay and was charged the more expensive package D. Went back to John to question why. He didn’t even want look at the bill. His answer was confusing and rude. He had earlier said he would make a correction. He only correction the milage they had on record. Not the service request and not the bill! It was like changing our phone number in their system. My husband and I were still confused and were looking at the paperwork for any other things they could have charged us for and John A. keep saying “Okay! Good-bye. Have a nice day”. We stood there trying to figure out our budget, he says again “Okay! Good-bye. Have a nice day”. Then went back to joking with his co-workers. We paid the $824 (we also got the state inspection, battery change and rear wiper change. Should have been only $481. That was the last time I will ever go back there. A few days later I filled out the on-line survey they asked me to fill-out. I gave them a bad review. I doubt they will ever respond. Star Toyota Of Bayside’s service, uncaring and dishonest. More
