Since I live in Atlanta, I had no plans to buy a car from Stillwell Ford in Michigan. Yet, when my old car's clutch went out 60 miles from my destination of Hillsdale, I found myself making the decision to have it towed to the Ford dealership in Hillsdale. How glad I am! I was quoted a fair price on the repair and with a few misgivings (due to my ancient car), I decided to have the clutch replaced. Needless to say, prior to the clutch dying, I had already decided I would no longer put money into my 1998 Ford Contour. Truly, I had hoped my beloved car would last one more year till I finished graduate school and received my raise. My Contour had been a great car for me and had never left me stranded until this long trip. After 16 years of faithful service, I finally had to face the fact that my much-loved car might no longer be reliable due to age and mileage. In the back of my mind, I was also contemplating the Appalachian Mountains and that 12 hour trip that I still had to make in order to get home and I pondered if my car would make it home. Miraculously, the part was delayed and I thought maybe I should look at some new cars. No one suggested this to me. In fact, the dealership was out of loaner cars at the time and still graciously gave me a new car to use, while I waited for that old part to come in. Since the decision before me was enormous, I decided to pray, pray, pray! The answer was to ask the dealership if I might look at some new cars while waiting for the part. In stepped Jeremy, who was kind, courteous, quick to answer my endless questions, and never pushy. He understood my needs right away and the first car he showed me was exactly what I wanted. Of course, I already knew I wanted a Ford Focus for I am a Ford-girl through and through. That part was easy, but beyond that I had not decided what I needed in my new car, but Jeremy knew! Yet, he patiently accompanied me on 4 different test drives over 2 days with other cars. He knew the decision was difficult to make and he only wanted to be helpful regardless if I stayed with my old car or bought a new one. The whole dealership is like that. They are very trustworthy! I must say, too, that Jeremy was also genuinely happy for me in the purchase, at a time when I was still in shock from all my decision-making and my whole experience. (Did I mention the 4½ hour wait for the tow truck and directing traffic that whole time off an exit ramp at a small intersection in rural Michigan? Me, who had never been stranded in her life!) It was not until the trip home that my happiness settled in! As I traveled all those miles in my new car with cruise control, I knew I was in heaven and that I would return home safely. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Stillwell Ford for kindly helping me through a very difficult time. In truth, now that I am home again in Georgia, I may even travel back to my hometown of Hillsdale, to purchase my next Ford in about 16 years! It would be nice to plan it out and see Jeremy’s smiling face again. He knows his cars. He knows people and I thank God that when my antique car died, Jeremy stepped in to help me let go and purchase a new, very reliable car to drive in Atlanta traffic. I love the pulse on the brakes!
