Went to buy a car yesterday the price on Autotrader app was 28,625. When it came time to talk out the door pricing he came to the table at 39,000. Their starting price was 31k. He said that there were certain requirements for that price, the sales rep said that sometimes the price on Autotrader isn’t always correct. Had another vehicle I saw on Autotrader that was 29,985 there starting price was 32k. Second time I have tried to buy a car from this dealership and the second time I’ve walked out. Very disappointing experience with Sun Toyota In January 2026, my wife attempted to purchase the Toyota we were already leasing from Sun Toyota. After discovering additional financing she had not ag January 2026, my wife attempted to purchase the Toyota we were already leasing from Sun Toyota. After discovering additional financing she had not agreed to, she rejected the purchase and was told the transaction was being reversed. We were led to believe our existing lease would continue. Unfortunately, Sun Toyota failed to properly communicate the lease reinstatement to Southeast Toyota Finance (SETF). When we later met with a Sun Toyota manager, we were told the dealership had failed to notify SETF back in February that the lease needed to be reactivated. SETF now says it did not receive the reinstatement paperwork or vehicle title from Sun Toyota until September 21, 2026 — roughly seven months later. During that time, we were not aware that our lease payments were not being processed. We are now being told we owe months of payments and face possible repossession if the amount isn't paid by September 30. We strongly dispute treating this as a normal payment default. We did not knowingly stop paying or abandon the vehicle. We relied on Sun Toyota's representation that the purchase was being reversed. What should have been a straightforward transaction has turned into a serious financial and legal dispute because of an administrative failure the dealership has acknowledged. If you do business with Sun Toyota, verify everything in writing and independently confirm with the finance company that any cancellation, reversal, or lease reinstatement has actually been completed. The Marine Corps League Foundation approved an emergency grant to pay that amount directly to the dealership. All I needed from Sun Toyota was the exact payee name, mailing address, and reference information so the Foundation could send the check. I reached out repeatedly by text, email, and phone over multiple days. My messages were read, I left voicemails, and I repeatedly explained that a veterans nonprofit was ready to send the dealership the full amount owed. Despite that, I still could not get a straightforward answer. The ACH authorization paperwork also states that the payment can be revoked by calling a listed number. When I called that number, it routed directly to Sun Toyota. I also made it clear that I was trying to cancel the ACH and replace it with direct payment from the Foundation. This should have been a very simple process: provide the payment instructions, cancel the scheduled ACH, and accept the $999.99 payment. Instead, I spent days trying to get basic information. I appreciate the help I received when purchasing the vehicle, but the communication and follow-through afterward have been extremely disappointing. I simply wanted to complete the transaction, make sure Sun Toyota was paid, and move on. More
