I had a really disappointing experience at Sutliff Volkswagen. I’d been talking with Mike Grady, the Sales Manager, for a couple of weeks about a 2020 GTI. I live in NJ, so driving three hours to see Volkswagen. I’d been talking with Mike Grady, the Sales Manager, for a couple of weeks about a 2020 GTI. I live in NJ, so driving three hours to see the car was a big commitment. Before going, I noticed in the photos that the front bumper had a lot of scrapes and scratches. Mike assured me in writing that the bumper would be sanded and repainted. When I got there, the car itself was great — but the bumper clearly wasn’t redone. It looked like they just spot‑painted a few areas and you could see the paint drip marks from how poorly the job was done. When I tried to bring this up, Mike was incredibly dismissive. He wouldn’t even sit down with me, spoke down to me while I was seated, and gave me maybe four minutes of his time. Meanwhile, he had all the time in the world for the older couple sitting at the table next to me and even went outside to go look at a vehicle with them. Any time I tried to explain my reasoning or talk about the condition of the car, he cut me off and dismissed it as "this is what it is". After driving three hours, being treated like I was an inconvenience instead of a customer was honestly shocking. Buying a car should be exciting, not something that makes you feel small. I ended up buying a 2024 GTI in Ohio instead. It was more expensive, but the experience there was night and day. They treated me like a human being, and that alone made it worth the extra cost. Sutliff Volkswagen didn’t lose my business over price — they lost it over how they chose to treat me. More
