Great experience buying a used car, not so great follow up I was looking for a "cheap" used car and Fred in sales worked with me to find something I'm really happy with. He listened to what I was looking for a I was looking for a "cheap" used car and Fred in sales worked with me to find something I'm really happy with. He listened to what I was looking for and advised me on what to buy. The car in question was more than I wanted to spend and there was no room for negotiation, but Fred and Ali worked with me on some cost-cutting and explained the trade-offs. Unfortunately there was in issue in working out a finance deal for the figure we had agreed on so I had to adjust my downpayment and monthly amount. Richie in finance really went the extra mile to find something that worked for me. However, the second day after I drove the car off the lot I noticed a minor issue which I later looked up online. There were lots of similar reports from other owners of the same model claiming that the issue was a symptom of something bigger, that it got worse over time, and that their dealers had made repairs at no cost to them due to safety concerns. I returned to the dealership on the third day and spoke with Jad, who was very helpful. He looked for information from Toyota about the problem, checked with service technicians, and even had them have a cursory look at the vehicle. Ultimately the outcome was that the staff at the dealership believed that there were no safety concerns and that if I wanted to have this issue looked at I would need to pay for a diagnostic to be performed. I believe the arrangement was that if the diagnostic revealed a safety issue, then I would not need to pay the fee and that repairs would be made at no cost to myself. This wasn't a great feeling since I had literally just bought the car, but I had to trust the staff or risking paying out more money. Jad did say he would make a note of the issue in case it deteriorated. I have since emailed him with another report from owners of the same model who have experienced my exact issue, but I haven't received a response. I feel that the right thing to do would have been to perform the diagnostic and waive the fee. More
