No customer service, you're just a sale to them When I was rear ended recently, I had only 5 days to buy another car before I had to turn in the insurance company's rental. I panicked and bought the When I was rear ended recently, I had only 5 days to buy another car before I had to turn in the insurance company's rental. I panicked and bought the first car I test drove, a 2002 RAV 4 from Vandergriff Toyota with only 65,000 miles on it. I thought it was a good buy despite the car's age. I paid $7,500 incl TTL. Yep, it had problems from the very beginning. I heard a grinding noise and took it to Service King. They said it had been in a major wreck (wreck not listed on the car fax) and the wheels needed alignment. The fender lining was loose and was rubbing on the front tire. The car, being only a few days off the lot, was of course not under any warranty. I called Vandergriff and they wanted to charge me $114 for parts only to replace it. I didn't want to know the labor costs. Over the next few days the transmission started acting funny and when the engine light came on, I took the car to Auto Zone. The diagnostic said it was a transmission part that had been a part of a Toyota recall. I didn't drive the car for days, relying on my daughter to take me to and from work. Basically when I accelerated, the gears switched to neutral. I finally hobbled to the dealership and they refused to fix anything for free. The recall had run out in 2012 and Vandergriff wanted to charge me between $1,000-$3,000 to fix it, making a 13-year old car cost me over $10,000. I refused and asked if I could trade it in for another car. The salesman, Glenn Byrd, wouldn't quote me a trade in value on this car I had for only 2 weeks. He said he had to "ask his manager." I waited and waited at the dealership, texting the now absent Glenn the whole time. I got to the dealership at 9 that morning and left at 1:30, after 4 1/2 hours of waiting. I went to another dealership and traded my two-week old $7,000 RAV 4 in . . . for $3,500. The sales manager at the new dealership said he wasn't even considering all the problems that car had, and that $3,500 was as high of a value that he could go. So basically I paid double at Vandergriff what the car was worth. Nice. It was only two weeks off the sales lot and I had driven it less than 100 miles. And Vandergriff wouldn't help me at all. The worst thing is that late that same night, after waiting 4 1/2 hours earlier in the day, Glenn called me and said he had other customers and that's why he couldn't take care of me. He said "I should've let them help me but now it's too late ... I jumped the gun." (Since I went to a different dealership). If he would've been truthful from the beginning and agreed that he sold me a lemon for twice the price and didn't have the time or desire to help me, at least he would be honest. Good luck if you decide to buy from these people. They have NO customer service from sales to the service department. You're just a number to them. More

Disappointing Service We took our 2007 Prius in to have the ECM (Electronic Control Module) reset since we were informed by another auto repair place that Toyota had issued We took our 2007 Prius in to have the ECM (Electronic Control Module) reset since we were informed by another auto repair place that Toyota had issued a bulletin saying that after 80,000 miles the ECM on the '07 Prius' needed to be reset. We already had the engine diagnostics run at the other repair place and they said it was throwing inaccurate codes and this is why it needed to be reset. We dropped off the car with Vandergriff and I spoke service manager Brett Cox and he told me they would reset the ECM for a cost of $124. About an hour later I got a call from the tech working on the car and he said basically "I just ran the diagnostics and it is showing a code for hybrid water pump so I can do that repair work for $350." I told him we already had run the diagnostics at another repair place and it was throwing inaccurate codes and what I would like him to do was reset the ECM. He said that he did not know of any such procedure. He said there was no such thing as "resetting an ECM." He asked again if he could go ahead and replace the hybrid water pump. I said no, don't do anything I will just come and pick up my car. He said, ok but that will be a charge of $125. I asked why and he said it was for running the computer diagnostic. I told him I did not ask to have that run - I already had it run at another repair place. I called the service manager TJ Hamilton and it went right to voicemail. I left a message for him but he never called me back. The next day I got a call from someone else at Vandergriff and they apologized and said the tech that worked on my car was not very experienced and he did not understand about resetting the ECM. He said that he got a master technician to work on my car and he did reset the ECM. I picked my car up the next day and paid the $124 as agreed. The car is running fine now and no codes are being thrown. This was a very disappointing experience since the tech working on my car did not do the procedure I had requested and did not even know how to do it. Following up here about one week later: I did get a call back from TJ Hamilton a few days after I called him and he offered to refund the money I paid for the repair. I said that would be great but so far I have not seen any refund show up in my bank account...I don't know if it will come through or not. More

He went above and b Brett Cox was a pleasure to work with! I typically do not request a service advisor but from now on I am going to request Brett. He went above and beyond in getting the job done! I had to order a replacement part on Friday when I came in for a scheduled service visit and it didn't come in until Saturday morning which is the busiest time for service. Brett with his service technician background took it upon himself to get the part installed. This probably saved me and hour of two of waiting. Great Job Brett! Look forward to working with you in the future! Roger J. More
