Botched Sale At World Toyota March 2017 The purpose of this letter to outline the events that led to the botched sale of our 2017 Toyota Highlander Limited on Thursday, March 23. The vehicle The purpose of this letter to outline the events that led to the botched sale of our 2017 Toyota Highlander Limited on Thursday, March 23. The vehicle was offered as new, which turned out to be a demo. And the vehicle was wrecked but was not disclosed. Another Toyota dealer discovered the vehicle had been wrecked. Background: On Wednesday, March 22, we contacted the Costco Auto Program (authorization# 91855-0317-61271-1) and asked them for an participating Toyota dealer. They quickly responded and referred us to World Toyota in Atlanta Georgia. Ms. Cooper of World called us within a few moments and offered to help us with the purchase of a new Toyota. We were interested in a 2017 Highlander Limited and Ms. Cooper mentioned they had only one in stock. I scheduled an appointment for the next day (3/23) at 11:00am. Ms. Cooper stated she would not be available for our appointment but would make certain a salesman would be available for us. We arrived at about 11:10 AM (We live in Senoia GA, 60 miles from World Toyota) and were assigned Mr. Cenatus, Internet Sales Manager as our sales representative. When we test-drove the 2017 Toyota Highlander Limited, we noticed the car had a demo sticker in the window. We asked Mr. Cenatus about the demo sticker since we were told the car was new. Mr. Cenatus stated that any car with less than 5,000 miles is considered a new car. He would adjust the sales price to reflect the fact that the car had been driven 3,710 miles. When we returned to the office of Mr. Cenatus, Mr. Dunbar, BDC Sales Director and the Martinez' agreed on a sales price that included our trade-in, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pre-runner ($12,500.00), installation of a remote-start, All Weather floor mats and $31,170.25 in cash. I, Silas then signed a document stating so. We then met Tony, Finance Manager (I did not get his last name) and signed all the required documents and the the Motor-Vehicle-Purchase-agreement. Thereafter, we waited while the remote-start was installed and the car was detailed, which took until 5:30pm. By the time the remote-start was installed it was too late in the day to have a car detailed so Mr. Cenatus washed the car himself and delivered the car to us. Since it was so late in the day, the second key could not be be acquired because it could not be located but Mr. Cenatus stated he would mail the key to us the next day, Friday, March 24. Early Saturday morning (3/25) I called Mr. Cenatus and asked him if he had mailed the key yet. He stated he had other assignments and had not mailed it. I told Mr. Cenatus we would pick up the key since I had left a few items in our Pre-runner he then stated he could not find the key, so he asked the General Sales Manager Mr. Holland to help expedite getting a second key made. Mr. Holland stated they could not find the key but that we could come back to World Toyota and he would ensure we got a second key quickly. We arrived at World Toyota, they took the car, cut the second key but it did not include the valet-key portion of the remote. Mr. Holland stated that the valet-key would be mailed to us directly from California, then we left for home but I noticed a Certified Used sticker had been placed on the driver's side window. We stopped at Costco Cumberland to top off the fuel tank but I could not open the gas cover. Since we were halfway home we decided to go to Newnan Toyota, that is closer to our home, to ask for help. Before we arrived at Newnan, we referenced our Owners Manual and discovered there was a manual latch, which I pulled to open the gas cover but it did not work either. Finally, I pulled the manual latch and at the same time reached around and pulled the gas cover open. By the time we arrived at Newman Toyota the service department was closing for the day but Shelley Smith the Assistant Service Manager attempted to help us. We showed Ms. Smith the problem with the gas cover and she stated that it was not Toyota quality for a new car. Ms. Smith then looked at the rear quarter panel and noticed the paint was not original Toyota paint and stated our Highlander had been wrecked and repainted. On Thursday (3/23) while going home we found a Collision report in the glove compartment that showed the repair of a Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2016. We showed it to Ms. Smith and she compared the VIN numbers from the Collision report to our Highlander and they matched even though we signed a Motor-Vehicle-Purchase-agreement for a Highlander Limited 2017. I called Mr. Holland and relayed the information to him about the car being wrecked. Mr. Holland stated he was unaware that our Highlander had been wrecked and would provide us a new vehicle as soon as possible. I was so upset, I declined his offer and told him I did not want any further dealings with World Toyota and asked Mr. Holland to wire our money and return my Pre-runner, to which he agreed. Later in afternoon (3/25) we made the trip back to World Toyota, met with Mr Holland and went into Tony's office and relayed the story to him. He then called in Mr. Dunbar who refused to believe the car had been wrecked. We showed Mr. Dunbar the Collision report and he began arguing that the car had not been wrecked and refused to give back the receipt. Only after Mr. Holland and Tony asked Mr. Dunbar to make a copy of the report did he finally agree to return it. We swapped vehicles and we left for home. In conclusion, this letter outlined the events that led to the botched sale of our 2017 Toyota Highlander Limited on Thursday, March 23. The vehicle was offered as new, which turned out to be a demo. The vehicle was wrecked but was not disclosed. Another Toyota dealer discovered the vehicle had been wrecked. Our confidence in Toyota has been damaged. This experience, that Mr. Holland called a, "comedy-of-errors" has damaged our confidence in Toyota. How can you restore our confidence in World Toyota? We would appreciate a call and an email response as soon as possible. BTW - We have purchased Toyotas since 1974 and have never had this kind of experience. Silas Martinez More

He was very patient and answered all the queries. Unlike usual experience at other dealership, at no point Jay looked doubtful about the seriousness of the buyer, which made me very comfortable. He was very passionate to explain all features of the car and various models with price vs value analysis, which helped me decide the car model Though I was not very happy with rigidness of management on price negotiations (I had a slightly better offer for same make and model from other dealership, and reason for 4 stars instead of 5 ), this respectful and trustworthy sales consultant was the biggest factor I decided to go with World Toyota. Easy and efficient experience I was called about possibly selling my car back to the dealership as they were looking for used inventory. It was not something I was really thinking I was called about possibly selling my car back to the dealership as they were looking for used inventory. It was not something I was really thinking about doing, but for the heck of it, I stopped by to get my car appraised. I felt they gave me a pretty good deal on the car, which I turned around and used to upgrade my vehicle. I felt they worked with me for the new car I purchased and the process was all relatively quick and efficient. I enjoyed working with my salesperson and both he and the finance contact were very pleasant. I've had good experiences at the dealership and do often recommend it to friends. More
