This transaction reflects a clear and unacceptable example of deceptive pricing practices. The vehicle was advertised at $17,998, yet the final purchase proposal includes approximately $4,300 in addit example of deceptive pricing practices. The vehicle was advertised at $17,998, yet the final purchase proposal includes approximately $4,300 in additional fees that were not transparently disclosed upfront. These charges, such as pre-delivery service fees, electronic filing fees, and protection plans, substantially inflate the actual cost of the vehicle and misrepresent the true purchase price. This is a classic bait-and-switch tactic: advertising a low base price to draw in buyers, only to later impose mandatory or pre-included add-ons that were not clearly presented as part of the original offer. Regardless of how these fees are labeled, if they are required to complete the purchase, they must be included in the advertised price. These practices appear to violate the updated regulations enforced by the Federal Trade Commission under the Combating Auto Retail Scams (CARS) Rule. As of 2026, dealers are required to clearly disclose the full “offer price,” inclusive of all mandatory fees, and cannot mislead consumers with artificially low advertised prices. Furthermore, any optional add-ons must only be included with the customer’s explicit, informed consent not preloaded into the deal structure. The failure to disclose these fees upfront, combined with their presentation as effectively mandatory at the point of sale, undermines consumer trust and violates both the spirit and the letter of federal consumer protection laws. I expect a revised offer reflecting full price transparency, with all non-essential add-ons removed unless expressly authorized. I would avoid this dealer at all costs. This kind of price deception erodes the foundation upon which an honest and fair transaction should be built. They will reply to this review and say their fees are in very small writing at the bottom of the listing which is true. However according to the Federal Trade Commission what they are doing is illegal and old practices. More
I just got back from HGreg Tampa, and if you want a masterclass in bait-and-switch tactics, this is your place. These guys don’t sell cars—they practice what I’d call the Art of Blowing Up the Deal. masterclass in bait-and-switch tactics, this is your place. These guys don’t sell cars—they practice what I’d call the Art of Blowing Up the Deal. I walked in after finding a vehicle listed at a reasonable $20K. Test drive went fine. Ready to move forward. Then the numbers came out—and I honestly had to rub my eyes to make sure I was reading them correctly. That $20K magically turned into $26K. Not because the car changed—because the fees did. Let’s break it down: ~$1,721 in sales tax (fair enough) $500 for a license I didn’t need (I have valid plates) $1,299 “Pre-delivery service fee” (aka dealer padding—easily 2–3x higher than typical in the area) $899 “Electronic Registration Filing Fee” (which many dealers charge $0 for) $198 doc fee (fine—but then what exactly is the $899 for?) And the crown jewel: $1,721 “Elite Protection Plan” — presented as mandatory That’s nearly $6,000 in added cost, almost 20% on top of the vehicle price. Pure margin creation. We tried to negotiate—nothing moved. Suddenly, what looked like a good deal became completely average at best. So we walked. Then—predictably—as we were leaving, the sales rep chased us down. Now the “mandatory” warranty could be waived. Interesting how “mandatory” disappears the moment you head for the door. But even then, the rest of the inflated fees remained, so we kept walking. Let’s be honest about what’s happening here. This pricing model is designed to trap less-informed buyers—especially those who may be focused on monthly payments instead of total cost. Bundling in things like a “mandatory” warranty makes financing easier for subprime buyers at who-knows-what interest rates. We were cash buyers, so the game changed quickly once they realized they couldn’t leverage financing. Bottom line: Know your numbers. Know what’s real and what’s noise. And be ready to walk—actually, run. I genuinely look forward to the day when direct-to-consumer models like Tesla become the norm and eliminate this kind of nonsense entirely. At the end of the day, consumers have a choice. If you agree to these terms, that’s on you. But don’t say you weren’t warned. More
I would give them a zero if I could. I communicated a half dozen times with a Samantha Pita. Specifically asked if the car I was interested was still available. Was told yes. Asked her t I communicated a half dozen times with a Samantha Pita. Specifically asked if the car I was interested was still available. Was told yes. Asked her to verify, I was going to be driving an hour and a half, maybe two hours with traffic. Was told yes. Drove there, took me almost two hours in 5 o'clock traffic and they sold the car a day or two ago. The sales rep tells me Samantha works the internet and goes by what's listed online, not what's on the lot. What a stupid statement. Shouldn't what's online be what's available. Shouldn't she have checked when I specifically asked because I was going to be driving two hours? Then they have the audacity to ask me if I'd like to see any other cars that actually have available. Horrible experience. After cooling off on my drive home, I stopped and purchased a 2023 Honda Ridgeline from another dealership. More
This has been the worst decision I ever made to purchase a vehicle from HGreg. The car was advertised for $13,000 and then after all the fees and unnecessary required “this and that” my total came to $20,0 a vehicle from HGreg. The car was advertised for $13,000 and then after all the fees and unnecessary required “this and that” my total came to $20,000! To top it all off, the vehicle is sold AS IS! No warranty no nothing. Fast forward 3 months from purchase date, car died. Come to find out it needs a new battery, new starter, new engine….i can’t believe what i have gotten myself into by purchasing from this dealer. Not only all this, the car I purchased came with no spare tire (which the sales guy promised to get me at some point…never did get it) and no manual no nothing came with the car. Horrible horrible experience which is ending up costing me double the money than if I would’ve gone to a reputable dealership which offers warranty. I have learned my lesson the hard way. It’s unfortunate for a full time single mom of 2 children struggling to survive to have to go thru this hardship on top of everything else. VERY SAD THAT THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE THIS WAY! More
I never leave reviews on any business, but man! this place deserves ZERO stars, but lucky for them is not an option. my husband was looking for a pickup truck, was on the phone with someone from HG this place deserves ZERO stars, but lucky for them is not an option. my husband was looking for a pickup truck, was on the phone with someone from HGreg texting and calling for like 2 days, we drove from TAMPA. He was texting constantly on our way there, we got there and he called, my husband says “we are walking to the entrance”, (I have to add, that as soon as you walk in you feel a bad “vibe” if that makes sense. I even turned to my husband and said I don’t like this) we get there and we get Tito, perfect. our deal should be easy, test drive, and buy CASH. he asked us twice “is this the vehicle you’re looking for? do you have anything else in mind” both times we said “no”. he pulls carmax and says “I’ll be back”, when he came back “oh it was sold this morning“, EXCUSE ME!? we drove 3 hours for you to tell me it had been sold! they just want you to walk in! I honestly wish that I could give a better review because I actually had a great buying experience. However, I purchased an EV with the understanding that I would get a tax credit on the car and I am not abl I actually had a great buying experience. However, I purchased an EV with the understanding that I would get a tax credit on the car and I am not able to get it because the dealership did not report the sale of the vehicle. After a month and a half of trying to talk to someone about this (repeatedly being told that I would get a call back and not hearing anything) I finally spoke with the general manager and was told that the tax credit would have been applied at the time of sale if I asked about it. I asked 3 different people about it on the day I purchased my car and was ultimately told that I just need to report the purchase on my taxes. This did not work. I now feel I have been shorted $4,000 because the dealership did not do their job. The general manager told me repeatedly that there was nothing they can do and I am disappointed by the dealership not doing anything to try to make this right. More
I bought a car through this dealership and the price was right and the appearance of the car and mileage was acceptable however once I got full control of the car there were some things that was not apparen right and the appearance of the car and mileage was acceptable however once I got full control of the car there were some things that was not apparent... 1. I bought a chevy with remote start but the remote that came with the car unlocked and locked it but could not remote start the car because the remote was or is for a Cadillac with no remote start button.... 2. On the second day of driving on my way to work part of the lower bumper on the car flew off because whoever repaired the car before being offered for sale did not do a proper repair job and did not attach the lower bumper on the car properly... 3. So the car has wheel locks on the wheels and no one mentioned that and the most important part is they didn't give us the wheel lock key because the dealership didn't even get the wheel lock key when they got it and didn't remove the wheel locks before selling me the car... so I'm stuck with trying to remove the wheel locks without the wheel lock key.....(hope i don't get a flat before I can get a way to remove them.... 4. I have called numerous times to talk with any manager to resolve these minor issues only to be ignored with no return phone calls or anything else... I'm very disappointed with how this situation was not handled... i wouldn't recommend thus dealership to anyone.... More
BEWARE OUT OF STATERS BUYING AT THIS DEALERSHIP! !!!! So my husband and I live in Maine and helping our son out in purchasing a safe, reliable car since he recently moved to Florida. Do NOT buy fro !!!! So my husband and I live in Maine and helping our son out in purchasing a safe, reliable car since he recently moved to Florida. Do NOT buy from this dealership in ANY of its locations. We paid approximately $15,000 when all is said and done and the car is non- drivable!!! My son had his car a week and it stalled and engine light came on. When he went to dealers they REFUSED to even talk. Now 2 weeks later the car is leaking oil so badly it is non-drivable (he has put on less than 100 miles!). At this point the engine has most likely seized and will need a new engine or be scrapped. If the dealership didn’t want to talk 3 weeks ago they sure as heck won’t now!!! Very sneaky, unethical car dealership. And as an out of stater beware as Florida does not have a lemon law for used cars unlike Maine. Sincerely, Sheila from Maine! 😡 More
