Extremely disappointing and misleading experience. - Tazia
Extremely disappointing and misleading experience. My experience with Northwest Hyundai was extremely frustrating, and I left feeling that I had not been treated honestly or transparently.
I went in prepared to purchase a used vehicle and had already secured financing through Navy Federal. I was very clear that I was focused on the out-the-door price and that I did not need dealer financing. We discussed an out-the-door price in the $26,000 range, and I retained the worksheets from the dealership documenting the numbers that were discussed.
During the process, Lucas sold me on allowing them to run my credit. He obtained my authorization for an initial credit inquiry. After that inquiry was performed, a manager requested that I sign another authorization. I was told the first inquiry was an “in-house inquiry.” I was uncomfortable with the situation and declined to authorize another credit inquiry.
I was then dealing with Sarah, who was presented to me as being in finance. She told me that she could guarantee me a lower interest rate than Navy Federal and continued pushing the dealership’s financing. I had already explained that I had financing secured, and did not want to have my credit ran again multiple times so I did not appreciate feeling pressured to run additional credit or switch financing.
The most concerning part happened when I was leaving. Sarah followed me outside and verbally told me that I could use my Navy Federal preapproval for the vehicle. After I left, she actually initiated a text conversation asking if I needed anything. I asked her to confirm in writing that my Navy Federal financing could be used. At that point, the story changed. She responded that the Navy Federal preapproval could not be used for the used vehicle.
That contradiction was extremely concerning to me. I was told one thing verbally and then received a completely different answer in writing after I had left the dealership.
What made this experience especially upsetting was that I came prepared to buy a vehicle. I had financing, I knew what I was willing to pay, and I was straightforward about my intentions. Instead of feeling like the dealership was trying to earn my business, I felt pressured into additional credit inquiries and dealer financing, while receiving inconsistent information about whether my existing financing could even be used.
I have since raised my concerns directly with Navy Federal, who confirmed the dealerships affiliation and they confirmed to Navy Fed that they do accept outside financing but the car has “since then been sold”. I don’t buy that one bit in fact there were severally similar priced vehicles where now (unsurprisingly) the price has conveniently been raised.
I strongly recommend that anyone considering purchasing from Northwest Hyundai be extremely cautious and verify that the numbers they are being quoted actually align with the interest rate and financing terms they are being told they qualify for. Be especially mindful of potential bait-and-switch tactics and make sure any promises or agreements are provided in writing. Had I not been paying close attention to the numbers and asking questions, I genuinely believe I could have ended up agreeing to terms that were not what I was originally led to expect. This dealership lacked the transparency and consistency I would expect from a reputable business. Unfortunately, my experience was the epitome of the dealership stereotypes people warn you about.
If I could give 0 stars I would.
