I began taking my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 3. 0 Duramax to Spitzer for its routine services after purchasing it brand new in Illinois. I work here in Findlay and Spitzer seemed like the right choice since they offered the pickup and drop off service. Fast-forward to July of 2025 when I noticed the truck was leaking oil. It had 41,827 miles on it at this time. I took it to Spitzer; they diagnosed it as being a crankcase front seal which they assured me they could fix. I was told it would be a couple day job, which it was, and I had my truck back as promised. One thing I found odd was that the horn no longer worked. Not a problem, not something I felt the need to rush right back in for, I’d just wait until my next routine service and let them know. Low and behold my next service wasn’t going to be a simple oil change. In November of 2025 I notice the truck is yet again leaking oil. I schedule it in for them to look at it, specifically asking them to look into the oil leak and then the horn issue. On the day of the scheduled service I got a call from Austin letting me know that there was so much oil everywhere under the truck they would need to put a dye in it to figure out where it was leaking from and that I would have to drive it 250 miles and then take it back. No problem, so I scheduled another appointment, and they delivered my truck back to my office. I go out after work and the first thing I check is the horn. Did it work? NO. I drove the 250 miles they requested and took it back into them for my next appointment where they were to take me to enterprise to get a rental, this time I couldn’t be without a vehicle. I get there, Austin has a driver lined up to take me to Enterprise but before leaving he goes out to do a walk around my truck. Realizes the truck has over a certain amount of mileage on it and informs me that Enterprise will not cover a car now. No big deal, he finds me one on their lot. Knowing this was only a couple day job from the last time they had it, no big deal I thought. At this time, I tell Austin to look into the horn issue telling him maybe it’s just not plugged back in from the last time you had the truck tore apart and rotate the tires while it’s here in your shop. Days go by, I hear nothing. No updates, nothing. I begin wondering if this is something more than the seal again which I was led to believe it was when dropping it off. I try calling and I get transferred to the service desk where no one answers. I left a message with the lady who answered to have Austin call me. I heard nothing and about four hours went by, and I finally decided to call back. I was able to get ahold of someone in service who told me they are currently awaiting GM approval of a new engine for my truck. Imagine my shock when I am being told my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 3.0 Duramax with under 50k miles on it needs a new engine. I was thinking this whole time it was a 2-day job, just a seal the same one that was replaced by Spitzer back in July of 2025. All the while I’m being told they are short staffed, the diesel mechanic I requested has been in training. More days go by, and I finally told my husband, “You call”. He calls them and they proceed to tell him that it is not the truck that needs a new motor, it is the seal again. He was also informed that they were waiting on some service bulletin on the horn. Two weeks in total went by and I got the truck back. Spitzer assured me I was good to go! Here we are in December of 2025 and just out of curiosity I decide to look under my truck. Leaking oil AGAIN, 700 miles later. Oil all over underneath the truck. Unbelievable. Was it worked on at all? Or did it just sit there for no reason, get torn apart twice and thrown back together? Hard telling but at this point I’m not sure it was ever fixed. This is the company who has been servicing my truck since I bought it brand new. That is scary. The tires were never rotated as requested. The horn works, it was just unplugged. More
