Horrible experience and total waste of my time I currently own a 2015 Kia Optima with some high mileage due to work commute but in great condition otherwise. I bought it in 7/2014 brand new. I real I currently own a 2015 Kia Optima with some high mileage due to work commute but in great condition otherwise. I bought it in 7/2014 brand new. I realize I am a bit upside down still owing about $15k. I received an offer in the mail for their willingness to purchase ~$4k above blue book value-- so roughly $14.5K. This sparked my interest since I may be able to minimize my negative equity and tack on the difference into a new purchase. I checked online ratings for this dealership and was happy about what I had read. I called the dealership and spoke with Burt Johnson. My question was "for the offer I received, can this be used on pre-owned vehicles or is this only applicable with a NEW car purchase." He advised it could be used on pre-owned. I know I didn't want NEW (again) so I was looking forward to trying to work something out--and again, I understood the negative equity and was ready to apply it to my new purchase, willing to spend about $17k on whatever we could agree on with the trade in. When I arrived on Saturday Josh had helped me claiming Burt was busy with other customers. I was immediately registered, handed my $10 for being there and then Josh and I sat down to discuss my need. He asked me what my goal was and we determined it was: trade in the vehicle, lower payments, leave with a used vehicle. I expressed I had no interest in a new car purchase based on my previous experience and didn't want that large of a debt. I had worked hard on my credit, never missed a payment, and knew I was overpaying on my current situation of $510 a month (I received a horrible deal on my Kia and realize that), but was hopeful this was something accomplishable. Josh walked to some supervisor office that was enclosed inside the lobby, had a discussion with "his manager" and came out asking me "well what if we put you in a 2018 Sonata with payments from 500-600/m?" I was a bit appalled since we had just discussed my GOAL and that being nowhere near it and I expressed that to Josh as my response. I went on that I came in here with this offer and expected it to be upheld. Offer me roughly what was on the offer, tack on neg equity onto my used car purchase, and have a great day... But then Josh explained to me that the offer is only good when people owe less on their trade in. Why? So that you can you only pay off $10k I may owe (in a better situation), then sell my car for 14k and I pay normal retail on the used vehicle I opt to purchase? He explained it was situational. Yeah, situational to their own profit. I left the dealership for my 30 minute drive home heated and felt completely played. I will never do business here. They had no sense of service to the customer but only to themselves and their profit. More
