I logged onto this site to see which Toyota dealership had high ratings that I could go to for a service. I was blown away to see number three in the state was the Redding California dealership. I think they are terrible and I will never set foot in there again and so I am writing this even though my two bad experiences happened a year and a half ago. My car was totaled and I needed a new car semi quickly as I was driving a rental. I decided on a Toyota and went to the Redding dealership October 2020. Reminder: that this is the middle of the pandemic, and vaccines had not been developed then and as I walk up to the outside of the building there’s an older middle-aged guy sort of leaning back in a chair with his thin fabric mask around his neck. I tell him that I was wishing to look at a car, and he sort of reluctantly gets up and I said in a polite and meek way could he please pull his mask up, I believe I immediately said because… I am a Immune compromised. I didn’t go into the details that I have cancer and Was taking chemo drugs. And his reply was, “if you’re THAT immune compromised, then why don’t you just stay home!” I was so taken back by his swagger that I didn’t immediately just walk out like I should have. I said,”well my car got wrecked and I really need to buy a Toyota”. At this point he says, “I can tell you don’t want to deal with me-I will go in and find someone else to help you.” I said, “no, no I didn’t mean that, I just was hoping you could put your mask up.” But at this point he Leaves me standing in the parking lot and walks into the building. Once again I should’ve left, but I didn’t. After a very long time it seemed, but was probably only 10 minutes out slowly sauntered a young really slick looking salesman. Skin tight polyester pants, hair slicked back and a colorful super thin gator up over his nose and mouth. About this time one of their big trucks that hauls cars around the lot drives by with a big giant MAGA flag Flying on it. Now it’s starting to make sense to me. I initially looked at a used car and it was very dirty inside and the young fellow didn’t seem to know much about anything and seemed very distracted and just interested in selling a car and at this point I just decided that I couldn’t deal with this scenario anymore and I said thank you and left. I ended up calling and the next day driving to Reno to Dolan Toyota where the staff there was mainly young and very efficient and very polite. I Purchased a new car that day. The only thing that happened was they couldn’t seem to find the second key, so they offered to pay for one to be made and programmed at the Redding dealership. I reluctantly decided that I would go back in a second time rather than driving back to Reno to get the second key. And once again, I go up to the service desk and a middle-age white guy says to me condescendingly, before I had a chance to say anything, you need to be over in that other line… So I went and stood in another line with three or four people in front of me. When I get up to the counter I say I’m here to have a key programmed and he says… You need to Be over in the other line where I had started. When I get to the first guy again he says sort of snarky “oh I thought you needed an oil change.” Now how he came up with that I don’t know but he was kind of assuming a lot I thought. Then it took 2 1/2 or 3 hours to program this key. At one point I go up to the desk and they tell me it’s not ready yet. So finally I walk around the building to where the cars are being worked on, and there are two mechanics with my car just sort of sitting around puttering doesn’t look like they’re doing anything and I said hey this is my car, is it all done and they said um oh yes. The car was fairly immediately driven around front for me to pick up. I wonder how long I would’ve sat there if I hadn’t gone to the area where you’re not supposed to go and asked the mechanics. I would say that Redding Toyota is great if you are an older, white, overweight, male, Trump supporter. Otherwise I would stay clear of this good old boy dealership. More
