Everything I Wanted in a Used Car I came to this dealership with a very specific list of needs for my next car. One of the vehicles I had found online was at this dealership and I went I came to this dealership with a very specific list of needs for my next car. One of the vehicles I had found online was at this dealership and I went specifically to look at and then test drive it. The Rogue ended up being a better fit than the Encore or Crossfit that I considered at other lots. I liked everything about the car that I test drove, except the interior color and the interior condition. David (and Dustin) hunted down the color I really wanted (tan/almond), in the year I wanted (2015), and had it shipped from PA. I got exactly what I asked for with a few extra features. The car was Pre-Certified and exceptionally clean/cared for. I didn’t negotiate hard on price, but I knew from Kelly Bluebook and looking at other prices online, that I was getting a fair deal. I’m demanding and let them know my budget so we found the very best car I could afford on that budget: lowest miles, best accessories, fewest blimishes, etc. Why not 5 stars? We struggled a little bit on how my down payment would be paid. I had $14K to put toward the car. I was told that my first $2K check would be held until closing the financing, but it wasn’t. I was also told I could play any additional the next day with no prepayment penalty on anything. I called the day after purchase to see where to send the check and learned that there was a pentalty for paying the loan off in the first 6 months and I couldn’t make a payment for about two weeks. Other issues: When I arrived on the lot I went to the restroom and David left to find my partner on the lot rather than waiting on me. He then directed his information and calls to him rather than me even though I was the one buying the car. The dealership even did a “hard pull” on my partner’s credit before the test drive even though he wasn’t buying the car and we had not talked about needing financing at all! (I usually save and pay cash for cars.) It took 2.5 hours to test drive the one car that we had already identified and called ahead to see. It is easy to do: my partner is a friendly “car guy” who knows “things” and was there to give me advice. I am pretty sensitive to gender biases so I freely admit that I may be reading into this more as a gender issue when it was truly about connecting with a fellow car-guy. Another note: The dealership didn’t seem to want to fix one of the key fobs before we bought the car, but David fixed that within a couple of days. That’s important. I learned that key fobs are wicked expensive (upwards of $500) and you can’t get a 3rd from anywhere else (for cheaper) if you don’t have two working ones. There was also a financing issue (name change) that I tried to head off early, but it cost me an extra trip because something fell through the cracks with communication between David and Stephanie. It was confusing, but could have been prevented if I could have spoken directly with Stephanie the day the deal was made. It felt like a used-car-tactic. Not everything is going to run smoothly during a car deal. We tried to buy on Friday, Saturday and eventually got it done on Monday. I felt like there was a lot of textbook used-car-salesmanship going on with delays and waiting in offices. But... I can’t complain about the vehicle that I ended up buying (that David/Dustin found for me) or the price. More
