I am writing to share my recent experience at Lexus of Brookfield, which was extremely disappointing and far below the level of service I have previously associated with the Lexus brand. I initially contacted the dealership after finding a vehicle online. I was informed that the vehicle had just arrived and would be available for viewing. Because my husband and I would be trading in his vehicle, we specifically arranged a 5:00 PM appointment on Friday. I also asked to be notified if the vehicle would not be available to view. Throughout the week, I received multiple communications from the dealership, including a text instructing me to ask for Brandon upon arrival and a personalized appointment reminder from Claire. On Friday afternoon, however, I received a message asking why I had missed my appointment. Confused, I called and was told it was simply a mistake. Despite that confusion, my husband and I drove nearly an hour to the dealership for our scheduled appointment. Upon arrival, we asked for Brandon and were told that, as the Used Car Manager, he would not be assisting us and that another salesperson, Josia, would help us instead. Before introducing himself or asking any questions about our needs, Josia immediately requested my driver’s license. He then informed us that the vehicle we had driven an hour to see was not ready and asked what else we wanted to look at. At that point, I requested to speak with a manager and was denied. Moments later, we were suddenly told that the vehicle could, in fact, be viewed. When the vehicle was brought around, the first things I noticed were dents in the passenger rear door, scratches around the rear door opening, tape still attached to the windshield, and bird droppings on the exterior. This was a vehicle priced around $40,000. When I pointed out the dents and scratches, I was told, “That’s what you get with a used car.” Later, Josia further minimized the issue by stating, “Don’t worry about those dents. They’re on the passenger side and you’ll be sitting on the driver’s side.” Those comments were unacceptable. A customer considering a $40,000 vehicle should not be expected to ignore visible damage simply because it is on the passenger side. The remainder of the visit was equally frustrating. Rather than discussing the vehicle, its condition, or our needs, Josia spent time talking about unrelated topics, including how close the service department is to the mall and how customers can get their steps in while waiting. As a repeat Lexus customer, I am already familiar with the service process. When I asked to look at other vehicles, I was told he would not unlock them because “people steal these cars.” Instead, we were shown vehicles from inside the showroom. By this point, it was after 6:30 PM, the dealership had closed, and yet we were being pressured to determine what it would take for us to drive a vehicle home that night. Eventually Brandon joined the conversation. When my husband asked about addressing the body damage, he focused primarily on the trade-in value and reiterated several times that the dealership does not negotiate because customers come from all over the country due to their pricing. While I understand every dealership has its pricing philosophy, repeatedly hearing this response did nothing to address our concerns about the condition of the vehicle. The most disappointing part of the entire experience was not the dents, scratches, or trade-in discussion. It was the complete lack of customer service, communication, and professionalism. We drove an hour to see a vehicle that was supposedly not ready, were given conflicting information throughout the process, had our concerns dismissed, and were pressured to make a purchase despite the vehicle’s condition. As a previous Lexus customer, I remember a very different buying experience—one that reflected the quality and professionalism associated with the Lexus brand.
