Five weeks after purchasing a used Ford Fusion from them, it’s been diagnosed with a blown head gasket due to coolant intrusion in the cylinders. It needs a long block replacement because that’s where the co it’s been diagnosed with a blown head gasket due to coolant intrusion in the cylinders. It needs a long block replacement because that’s where the coolant is leaking from. Basically means a whole new engine and it’s estimated to cost $6k or more. They sold me on getting a warranty but when they went to sign me up it said the car wasn’t eligible. I’m curious now why that really was, because at the time they said maybe due to the age or mileage but they weren’t sure. Then when I went back to speak to them about the issues with the car, they told me it was due to me not being approved for the loan amount when the warranty was included, but this is after also telling me that with my 779 credit score I could get approved for whatever I wanted off the lot. I’m not sure how the warranty approval works but I’ve seen others be able to get warranties for older cars with higher mileage so I’m wondering if after entering the VIN, maybe it showed them that it was due to a known issue or previous diagnosis. Since the car was ineligible I purchased it as is. As is means Midtown KIA has no legal liability and are not required to assist me in any way. I know that. Lemon laws here only apply to brand new vehicles. But I went to the dealership to ask for their help not because they legally owed it to me, but because that would be the right thing to do. At least share the burden of the cost with me since it is a severe issue and I haven’t even had it long enough for my first payment to be due! It’s not like the coolant just started leaking in the last 6 weeks to the point of blowing a head gasket. It’s not like I’ve skipped any maintenance. It’s not something that could be considered superfluous like air conditioning. It’s total engine replacement and they are claiming no knowledge of the issue despite performing a maintenance inspection after it was traded in to them. I very politely and calmly spoke with them and gave them the opportunity to do the right thing and their response was that there is no requirement for them to assist with fixing it so they will not be helping me. They said “it’s not even a KIA” like ok? And? That didn’t matter when I was giving you money to purchase it! Don’t do business with Midtown KIA! More
