Both of my salespeople were excellent, charming, helpful and genuinely concerned that my experience would be satisfactory. The facility itself is spotlessly clean, light, bright and airy and from what I saw and genuinely concerned that my experience would be satisfactory. The facility itself is spotlessly clean, light, bright and airy and from what I saw of the extensive inventory everything was impeccably presented. The problem was that I was perhaps a rather unusual buyer. I'd pretty much agreed the major details of the purchase before arriving and was buying the used Lexus on behalf of an old friend who has become partially disabled and couldn't attend to the matter himself. Even though this was to be a cash purchase the dealership's anti-fraud control system kept throwing up new problems to completing the purchase and overcoming each one took time. This wasn't helped by the sales manager who appeared completely disinterested. The root of the problem appeared to be the dealership's control system throwing up new obstacles, each of which had to be overcome to move forward. As an example I was told that my friend would have to take delivery in person since the car was going to be registered in his name. He's in Northern California, so, even if the car had been fully paid for this was impossible and there appeared to be no way that I could take delivery on his behalf. It was suggested that I buy the car in his stead and then transfer it to him which I agreed to do. I went back home, a little over 100 miles away agreeing to come back the next day with a Cashier's check from a major bank, using a one way rental car to get there. While I was getting the car, time being of the essence on a Friday and with the whole of Los Angeles to traverse in both directions my wife got the bank check for me and I set off. Next obstacle! The dealership couldn't accept the check because my wife's name was on it as having purchased the check so they would have to have a copy of her driver's license and a credit application to move forward! That took time as my wife was away from home, and now the system required my S.S. number and a credit report too! More time wasted as I'd locked my credit report after having my phone stolen last year and the password for the credit reporting agency was on my home computer. Why this was even necessary is beyond me and I'm a CPA!. Eventually we could move forward. The Finance Manager was charming, efficient and helpful too and some three hours after arriving for what should have been at most a forty minute transaction I left with the car into the thick of Los Angeles Friday night rush hour (actually four excrutiating hours) for the journey home. All in all this simple process took the better part of two working days and almost 450 miles of driving, most of which could have been avoided had the dealership's sales manager been pro-active rather than reactive.
