I called on Friday, July 23rd, to inform the salesman that I would be coming in to test drive a 2011 Nissan Rogue at 9am on Saturday, July 24th. Upon arrival, the keys and the vehicle were 'lost'. The s that I would be coming in to test drive a 2011 Nissan Rogue at 9am on Saturday, July 24th. Upon arrival, the keys and the vehicle were 'lost'. The salesman ran around for over an hour trying to find both the vehicle and the keys. (Red Flag #1) Once the vehicle was finally located and brought to the showroom, I was finally able to inspect it for the first time. When I opened the doors to the vehicle I observed dust, dirt, and debris from the previous owner in the car. This is not something that I would expect when purchasing a vehicle from a dealership. Items in the car included: a rock, a bottle of soap, a copper pipe and fittings. The salesman informed me that the check engine light was on and the issue was a Mass Air Flow Sensor malfunction. Due to this issue the vehicle was not going to pass NYS Inspection. (Red Flag #2) However they were able to clear the check engine light and I was able to test drive the vehicle. After the test drive, I told the salesman "let's get this deal done." Again he got up and was running around the showroom floor. While my wife and I were sitting at his desk. Every 20 minutes or so he would come back to his desk and perform another item from his checklist in order to complete the transaction (ie. Calling the insurance company). He also informed me that the vehicle in question was in the service department getting the Mass Air Flow Sensor worked on. At this time the salesman placed his lunch order which was being purchased by the company. My wife and I sat there for an additional two hours. (Red Flag #3) The moment we got up and said that we were going to go eat, that is when the finance manager brought the both of us into his office to sign the paperwork. While signing the paperwork, I noted that the $1000 down payment was due 'upon delivery'. I refused to sign that paper, due to the fact that the vehicle was not delivered at that time. Furthermore the paper that states the car is being sold 'as is' and the dealer is not going to install any additional parts to the vehicle, was not signed either. This is due to the fact that I knew at that time that a Mass Air Flow Sensor was being installed on the vehicle, and the vehicle had not passed NYS Inspection. When I arrived at the dealership at 9 am I informed the salesman that I cannot stay past 2pm since I had to go to work at 4pm. The hours between 9am and 2pm was ample time to complete this transaction. Even if that was not the case, which clearly it was not, I told the salesman that I am very patient and can wait until Monday. The salesman said over and over, "We are going to try to get this done for you as soon as possible." Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the deal on Saturday, July 24th. Furthermore, my wife and I spent over three hours at the dealership; only to walk away empty handed. On Monday, July 26th I called the dealership at approximately 9:30am and spoke to the salesman. He told me that he would go check on the vehicle and call me "Right Back." That phone call never came. Two hours later I called back and the salesman informed me that the vehicle did not pass the inspection, and needed new tires (Red Flag #4). At approximately 2:10 pm on Monday, July 26th my wife and I walked in to the showroom. The salesman looked up, saw us, and ducked out the back door. (Red Flag #5). My wife and I sat down in the waiting area. After sitting there for 15 minutes I finally said to my wife "If he is not back here in 5 minutes with some kind of information, I am walking out of here." Five minutes passed, and I left. 2:30pm was the time I officially walked out of the showroom. This was 30 minutes past the 2pm deadline that I originally stated. I have to work at 4pm. It wasn't until 4:01pm that I received a voicemail stating that the vehicle was ready. This is over six hours from when I made the first inquiry phone call of the day. However, by this time I was already highly frustrated with the lack of communication, run-around nature, and overall experience of this car buying purchase. All in all, I wasted over nine hours waiting and wondering if I was going to be able to drive away with a reliable, affordable vehicle from a reputable dealership. Instead I was just taken for a ride. More
